The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Teqball Championship took place continuously from June 23 to 28, attracting the participation of more than 100 athletes from 12 units in the city. The tournament was directed by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports and hosted by the Hoa Lu Sports Center, with the support of the District 6 Culture and Sports Center.
Athletes will participate in the tournament and compete in 7 events. Through the tournament, the organizers will select core forces to form a team to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games at the end of 2025 in Thailand.
At the end of the exciting matches, the organizing committee awarded the overall title to District 5 with 4 gold medals and 3 silver medals. District 7 ranked second with 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals, District 1 ranked third with 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.
The leader of the Teqball department in Ho Chi Minh City said: "This year's tournament was exciting, high-quality and had the participation of many units in Ho Chi Minh City. That shows the vitality and great spread of this sport, even though it was introduced to the locality not long ago."
After this year's tournament, Ho Chi Minh City will establish a Teqball team of 10 athletes (5 men and 5 women) and 3 coaches to go to Hungary for training. The team is expected to train for more than 20 days and will receive active professional support from international experts. This will be the core force of the Vietnamese Teqball team preparing for the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.
Teqball is a new sport introduced into the SEA Games program and is being heavily invested in by Vietnam to compete for medals in the region. Previously, Ho Chi Minh City made an impression when hosting the 2024 Teqball World Championship (taking place from December 4 to 8), gathering 221 athletes from 95 countries and territories, with 301 matches, becoming the largest tournament in the history of this sport.
According to the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ), the 2024 Teqball World Championship has been broadcast in more than 70 countries and attracted more than 338 international media coverage. With the potential for development, Ho Chi Minh City has sent delegations to Hungary and Spain - two countries with leading Teqball movements - to learn from experience from mid-2024.
