18 years old, Tran Tien and the song “Marching to Hanoi ”: what happened?

Musician Tran Tien still sings at 78 years old
At the age of 18, musician Tran Tien was still pursuing a singing career. He was sent by bicycle to musician Van Cao's house to ask for the song "Tien ve Ha Noi" to arrange. Musician Tran Tien said: "Standing before a famous senior, I was overwhelmed. I was too young, only 18 years old. My legs were shaking, and my body was sweating with fear."
Musician Tran Tien said: "Mr. Van Cao asked me what I do? I asked him to sing a song I composed. I sang from "Thanh nien ra tien tuyen" to "Co gai Sam Neua". Mr. Van Cao didn't say anything, just listened silently and occasionally took a sip of wine. I was trembling with fear. After a while, he said, "Stop singing and learn to compose."
On my wedding day, musician Van Cao arrived the latest. He arrived at 10 pm, after the party had ended. He gave me a wedding gift, a handwritten copy of all the experiences of the French composer and organist - Olivier Messiaen. Cuong (musician Nguyen Cuong) said: "Why are you so happy?"
At that time, I was young and so I liked new things. When I went to the South, I still lived my life in my own way. When I met Mr. Son (musician Trinh Cong Son), he asked: "What have you been doing lately? Why don't you write music anymore?". I bragged that I was studying symphony. Mr. Son said: "Ten bad symphonies are not as good as a good folk song. Tien writes well, don't pursue opera anymore. You haven't become a soldier yet, so you want to become an official." After hearing that, I thought to myself, "A human voice that is so good, ten symphonies are not as good." And so I listened to my teachers.

The program's name is inspired by a line in the song "Vietnamese Birds" (Van Cao) - Come here when the monsoon is fragrant, oh wandering birds... 4 musicians, each with a huge musical legacy in terms of scale and stature of their works, along with fascinating lives, and literary anecdotes that have been passed down through the decades, becoming an important part of the musical life in particular and Vietnamese art in general.
This "Four Birds of the Sky" gathering will also allow the audience to once again recognize the portraits of the four musicians and their music through their typical songs, which have become classics of Vietnamese music.
And through different perspectives, let's look back at the life journeys of musicians to see how they vividly recounted their lives and their times through music.
All four musicians have close, intimate relationships both in music and in real life, and now, for the first time, they are "together" in a music program on a grand stage.
