Tran Tien always remembers the wedding gift of the late musician Van Cao

(Dan Tri) - Musician Tran Tien said that the late musician Van Cao was the one who advised him to give up singing and pursue composing.

In December, musician Tran Tien will participate in the music night “Come back here, four birds of the sky” - the first program to honor four great musicians of Vietnamese music including Van Cao, Pham Duy, Trinh Cong Son and Tran Tien.

The show takes place at 8:00 p.m. on December 28 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi , with the participation of famous artists including Hong Nhung, Bang Kieu, Ha Tran, Tan Minh, Doan Trang, Pham Thu Ha, Le Hieu, Tuan Anh, and young, powerful singers such as Lam Bao Ngoc, Thanh Thuy...

During the music night, besides the singers, musician Tran Tien himself will also perform songs by three people he calls "seniors".

"The three seniors have flown to heaven, but heaven hasn't called me yet, but I don't know if I'll have enough strength to "fly" when the show takes place. But honestly, I'm very happy to be one of the representatives of the Vietnamese music generation participating in this show," he humorously shared.

Musician Tran Tien said that he and the three remaining late musicians were brothers and colleagues who always loved and respected each other in music and life.

Musician Trinh Cong Son was the one who helped Tran Tien when he was wandering from North to South, advising him to write songs instead of focusing on instrumental music. Musician Pham Duy was also someone Tran Tien greatly admired. The two had a chance to talk during a performance abroad.

The late musician Van Cao was the one who advised Tran Tien to pursue the direction of composing because he recognized his own style. Musician Tran Tien always remembers the wedding gift that the late musician Van Cao gave him. It was a handwritten copy of the valuable experiences of the famous French composer. The gift was brought to him by the late musician late at night, making him very emotional.

According to the organizers, the name of the program was inspired by a line in the song Dan Chim Viet (Vietnamese Birds) by Van Cao. The four musicians all have a huge musical legacy in terms of scale and stature of their works, and their lives have many ups and downs, becoming an important part of the musical life in particular and Vietnamese art in general.

In 1999, musician Pham Duy proposed to hold a series of traveling shows in Europe with Trinh Cong Son and Tran Tien. However, the musicians’ health problems prevented this plan from being realized. With “Come here, four birds of the sky”, the musicians were reunited, alongside the late musician Van Cao.

The concert will bring the most representative works of the four musicians, retold in a new and creative musical language while still preserving the spirit and depth of the original.
