Not only leading in economic development of the Viet Bac region, Thai Nguyen is also one of the localities with a sustainable and in-depth development of the sports movement.

In the past 5 years, the province's high-performance athletes have won more than 1,500 medals of all kinds at national and international tournaments.

At the 9th National Sports Congress in 2022, Thai Nguyen rose to 14th place out of 65 participating delegations, while holding the leading position among 19 mountainous provinces.

Along with high-performance sports, grassroots sports are also promoted. By the end of 2024, the whole province will have 33.2% of people participating in regular physical exercise, 25.8% of families meeting the standards of sports families. 100% of schools ensure physical education programs; 100% of officers and soldiers of the armed forces meet physical training standards.

These impressive numbers not only demonstrate the investment in community physical fitness but also serve as the foundation for Thai Nguyen to successfully organize major sporting events such as this Asian Muay Thai Championship.

This year's tournament is expected to bring together nearly 400 athletes, coaches, team leaders and referees from 25 countries and territories, along with a large number of fans and tourists from home and abroad.

The event is an opportunity for Thai Nguyen to visually and vividly introduce attractive destinations such as Thai Hai Ethnic Ecological Stilt House Village Conservation Area, Nui Coc Lake, ATK Dinh Hoa, traditional craft villages, OCOP products, and unique intangible cultural heritages.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Local Organizing Committee of the 2025 Thai Nguyen Muay Thai Asian Championship: Through the Tournament, we hope to promote local tourism, introduce the nature, people and cuisine of Thai Nguyen to international friends. This is also an opportunity for the province to improve its capacity to organize international events, prepare for large-scale tournaments in the future, and spread the spirit of sportsmanship in the community, especially the youth.

Thai Nguyen currently has more than 1,000 historical and cultural relics, more than 550 intangible cultural heritages, nearly 300 craft villages and over 300 OCOP products, many of which are 4-5 star products. The most prominent is Thai Hai Stilt House Village, recognized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as one of the 32 best tourist villages in the world, and is currently one of the two 5-star OCOP tourism products in the country.

In addition, high-end tourism projects such as the 6-star Flamingo Resort, Glory and Tan Thai golf courses will come into operation in 2025, creating a strong boost for local tourism infrastructure.

Thai Nguyen is also known as the land of "First Tea" with famous tea products nationwide. Associated with tea culture, the province is promoting the development of 4 main tourism product lines: cultural - spiritual - historical tourism; eco-resort tourism; community - rural tourism; and MICE - sports - adventure tourism.
