This is the first time the award has been held for outstanding Vietnamese and Vietnamese-origin PhDs globally in the field of computer science.

The award attracted more than 100 nominations from 19 countries, with outstanding works in AI, big data, cybersecurity, telecommunications, IoT and bioinformatics.

With his doctoral thesis "Testing self-learning virtual reality systems" defended at Vanderbilt University, Tennessee, USA in 2020, Dr. Tran Hoang Dung excellently won first prize with a prize value of 2 billion VND.

This research has built a solid mathematical foundation along with new algorithms to test the safety of neural networks and autonomous systems.

Dr. Tran Hoang Dung's research has wide applications, ensuring safety and sustainability for advanced technologies such as self-driving cars, drones and deep neural networks, becoming an important foundation in the field of modern computing.

With his contribution to the field of security of self-learning cyber-physical systems, Dr. Tran Hoang Dung's doctoral thesis also received the best doctoral thesis award from the Institute of Electronics (IEEE) in the field of cyber-physical systems (Cyber-Physical Systems) in 2021.

To date, Dr. Tran Hoang Dung has published more than 40 research articles, many of which have been published in leading journals and conferences in the fields of programming languages and logic, formal methods, virtual-physical systems, neural networks and machine learning systems.

Dr. Dung's notable achievements include the first testing method capable of analyzing real-world systems such as VGG16 networks and semantic segmentation networks, outperforming existing methods.

This 8X doctor also led and participated in many research projects funded by the US National Science Foundation (NSF), the US Army and large corporations such as Toyota with a total budget of about 2.6 million USD. Of which, about 1.92 million USD (73%) was mobilized in the role of Principal Investigator or sole Investigator of the project.

Recently, Dr. Tran Hoang Dung's new research direction on the safety of complex self-learning systems was nominated for the NSF CAREER award worth 700,000 USD. This is the most prestigious award for young professors in the US by the US National Science Foundation.

Second prize was awarded to the doctoral thesis of Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Vice President of Research and Development at Fasikl Company, Minnesota, USA.

The thesis "High-precision bioelectric neural interface towards human-machine symbiosis" by Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan opens a new era by helping amputees control prosthetics with lifelike dexterity through neural interface.

This is a major step forward in realizing the potential of human-machine symbiosis, significantly improving the quality of life for millions of mobility-impaired patients worldwide.

Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan has participated in many prestigious scientific projects funded by organizations such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the National Science Foundation (NSF) of the United States with a total budget of nearly 2.4 million USD.

To date, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan has published 19 articles in prestigious scientific journals, co-authored 2 book chapters, and holds 2 patents in the United States, with 10 other applications pending.
