Director of Bach Mai Hospital tells about signing a hundred thousand pieces of paper every day

(Dan Tri) - Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co, Director of Bach Mai Hospital, said that in more than a year of digital transformation, hospital management has changed dramatically. The hospital wants to invest in technology and build a smart hospital.

Sharing at the signing ceremony of comprehensive strategic cooperation on digital transformation and application of science and technology, especially AI in medical examination and treatment, hospital management and human resource development between Bach Mai Hospital andFPT Group, which took place on the afternoon of November 4, Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co said that after only one year of embarking on digital transformation, the hospital has saved billions of dong in printing film for screening.

"More than a year ago, on average, I signed from 60kg to 100kg of paper every day, and the hospital printed several hundredkg of film paper every day. But now, thanks to the application of information technology, digital conversion, and digital signature, there is no longer a scene of stacks of paper waiting to be signed, and the film does not need to be printed, saving hundreds of billions," Associate Professor Co shared.

Although it has brought many achievements after a year of digital transformation, Associate Professor Co said that the hospital still needs to continue to invest in building a smart hospital.

"If we compare the application of smart technology to other hospitals in the world , Bach Mai Hospital scores 5/10. I hope that with the cooperation between Bach Mai Hospital and FPT Group, the hospital will continue to invest in technology, build a smart hospital, and improve the quality of medical examination and treatment," Associate Professor Co said.

According to Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of FPT Corporation, the medical industry is a field that contains core elements for the development of technology, because first of all, this is a human industry.

Artificial intelligence today has developed rapidly thanks to large language models (LLM) - built on the foundation of human language and knowledge. FPT wishes to accompany Bach Mai Hospital in the journey of mastering technology, building a smart hospital model, and developing AI platforms to serve Vietnamese healthcare .

Mr. Binh hopes that this cooperation can create new steps for healthcare and national digital transformation.

Meanwhile, the Director of Bach Mai Hospital expects Bach Mai Hospital to become a smart hospital, in which AI and digital technology are applied not only in diagnosis, treatment, and hospital management, but also towards comprehensive automation.

"In particular, Bach Mai Hospital aims to connect national health data, build digital health records for all citizens, create a foundation for research and improve the quality of health care. When there is a standardized Big Data warehouse, Vietnam will have the conditions to promote research and publish major scientific works," Associate Professor Co said.

According to the agreement, the two sides will cooperate comprehensively, focusing on four key areas, from comprehensive digital transformation, technology application in medical care and treatment, to health care and medical human resource development.

In particular, with the application of science and technology in medical care and treatment, the two sides will apply AI in care, forecast patient needs, support imaging diagnosis, ultrasound, endoscopy, and support doctors in making clinical decisions.

At the same time, AI will support effective resource allocation, medical supply chain management, forecasting demand for supplies, medicines, and consumables, contributing to improving hospital operational efficiency...
