(To Quoc) - The Scientific Seminar "Professor Tran Quoc Vuong (1934-2005) with the culture and folk arts of Thang Long - Hanoi" organized by the Hanoi Folk Arts Association took place on October 25. The event was held to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Professor Tran Quoc Vuong's birth, and to commemorate and express gratitude for his contributions and affection for Thang Long - Hanoi as well as the Hanoi Folk Arts Association.


Speaking at the seminar, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Thi An - President of the Hanoi Folklore Association affirmed: "Professor Tran Quoc Vuong (1934-2005) is not only famous as a world-class historian but also a Thang Long scholar in many aspects of this title. With profound knowledge of the sacred land of Thang Long - Hanoi, with a deep love for the place where he has been attached to his whole life, Professor Tran Quoc Vuong not only has many research works on Thang Long - Hanoi but is also a person with deep attachment, with many great contributions to the formation and development of the Hanoi Folklore Association".

According to the assessment of the Chairman of the Hanoi Folklore Association, as a researcher, Professor Tran Quoc Vuong has many interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research works on Hanoi , expressed in historical, archaeological, ethnological, linguistic, cultural perspectives... Many of these works are classic studies, bedside books for many generations of researchers after him on Thang Long - Hanoi .

At the seminar, many presentations acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of Prof. Tran Quoc Vuong to Vietnamese folk culture and arts in general and Hanoi folk culture and arts in particular. Tran Quoc Vuong and folk culture, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Huu Son said: In fact, it can be seen that Tran Quoc Vuong, on the one hand, deeply surveys and studies folk cultural entities, which are truly folk culture in the past (geographical and cultural continuity through generations, myths and myths; history and unofficial history, scholarship and folklore, written and oral traditions; temple - pagoda - shrine system and legends - myths - anecdotes; human and natural god relationships, symbols and sacredness, individuals and the collective unconscious;...) with the explanation and application to modern and contemporary life (festival organization, relationship between ceremonies and festivals, correlation of traditions and modern economic and social life; development requirements and ecological environment; from folk culture lessons to recommendations on contemporary cultural and social development...)...

As for his contributions to Hanoi with many highly appreciated achievements. Commenting on the contributions of Professor Tran Quoc Vuong, Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Nang Chung emphasized: "There is almost no important archaeological site or discovery on the land of Thang Long-Hanoi that is not associated with the discovery or participation of Professor Tran Quoc Vuong. In particular, Hanoi's prehistoric culture is a prominent feature in Vietnam's prehistoric culture.

Prof. Tran Quoc Vuong has made many new and important observations about the history, geography and culture of Hanoi. With a spirit of dedication, through field trips and archaeological excavations, he has transcended time, gone back in time to deeply understand the cultural history of Thang Long through many periods, made important studies on the decision to establish the capital of Ly Thai To, and made talented and wise predictions to confirm the location of Thang Long Imperial Citadel during the Ly - Tran dynasties in accordance with recent archaeological discoveries," Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hue emphasized.

Professor Tran Quoc Vuong has written many scientific research articles (over 400 articles) published in specialized journals in the country (Archaeology, History, Literature, Folklore, Culture and Arts...) and abroad (Cornell University Press, North Ilinois, Yale University (USA), Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka University (Japan), Seoul University (Korea), Oxford University Press (UK)...). In addition, he has written and published many books (over 40 books) both in and outside the country. Among the above 40 books, Professor Tran Quoc Vuong has works about Thang Long - Hanoi such as: "Hanoi of a Thousand Years" (1975) co-written with Tao Trang Vu Tuan San, "Hanoi, the Capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" (1984) edited by Professor Tran Quoc Vuong, besides Learning about Hanoi's folk culture (1997); Craft villages and craft streets of Thang Long, Hanoi (2000); Hanoi as I understand it" (2005); Thang Long - Hanoi - Exploration and contemplation (2006)...

Professor Tran Quoc Vuong is considered one of the "four pillars" of contemporary Vietnamese history with famous names such as " Lam, Le, Tan, Vuong " (including Professors Dinh Xuan Lam, Phan Huy Le, Ha Van Tan and Tran Quoc Vuong).

During his lifetime, Professor Phan Huy Le once evaluated his friend and brother - Professor Tran Quoc Vuong on his contributions to Thang Long, Hanoi: For Professor Tran Quoc Vuong, covering all specific research results is a scientist who has spent almost his entire life closely attached to the land of Thang Long - Hanoi, a thousand years of culture and heroism. Professor Tran Quoc Vuong often visits and surveys all the relics and landscapes of Thang Long - Hanoi, is present in all archaeological excavations in Hanoi, and is rarely absent from festivals, cultural, religious and belief activities in Hanoi.
