The book introduction program under the Project "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent problems for women and children" (Project 8) with the theme "Media stories to change gender prejudices and gender stereotypes" was held at the Ke Sach District Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, Soc Trang Province, with the participation of local authorities, teachers, students, parents and many psychologists andeducation experts.
Speaking at the program, Ms. Phan Thi Xinh Huong, President of the Vietnam Women's Union of Soc Trang province, said: "The whole province has 128 hamlets and villages in 42 communes, wards and towns implementing Project 8 "Implementing gender equality and solving urgent issues for women and children".
Up to this point, the Women's Union at all levels has basically completed 100% of the targets assigned by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union for the period 2021-2025, especially the target of establishing and improving the quality of activities of 32/24 "Leaders of Change" Clubs with more than 840 students and teachers participating, reaching 133% of the assigned target.

Ms. Khuc Thi Hoa Phuong, Director and Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Women's Publishing House, shared about Project 8, the National Target Program for Socio -Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas: "Implementing Gender Equality in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas". The program aims to help women and children in ethnic minority areas, remote areas, and mountainous areas gain more knowledge about gender equality, expand and improve knowledge about child-rearing and practice life skills, and prevent violence and abuse.
In addition, Ms. Khuc Thi Hoa Phuong also shared about outstanding activities, practical experiences in the implementation of Project 8 as well as the vision in promoting the role of books and media in gender equality work.

With experience in child psychology, journalist Nguyen Thi Le Thuy stirred up the atmosphere by playing interactive games with students, while sharing knowledge and skills to prevent and respond to gender-based violence. Through examples and real-life stories, role models such as Giang A Tua who overcame difficulties to rise up, and the story of the most precious thing in Tua's family, the bookshelf, strongly inspired reading and self-study.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thu Hien, founder of the Project “Good Books for Primary School Students”, leads from the story of good books, bad books to the issue of friends in puberty and the story of friends of the opposite sex integrating sex education for students. With more than 35 years of teaching experience, speaker Thu Hien shares and guides very practical stories about sex, sex education with vivid, fun examples, suitable for students.
On this occasion, Vietnam Women's Publishing House presented a bookcase to the Ke Sach District Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, Soc Trang Province, worth 25,000,000 VND.

“These are not just books, but also knowledge, inspirational stories, helping students, especially ethnic minority students, to more clearly identify gender stereotypes and gender prejudices that exist in the community, thereby forming positive thinking and awareness of change for a more equitable and civilized society. We believe that, with the support of the Publishing House and learning materials like these, students will have more opportunities to broaden their horizons, develop skills and nurture their dreams of changing their homeland,” said Mr. Kiem Huol, Principal of Ke Sach District Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, expressing his gratitude to the Vietnam Women's Publishing House and the Vietnam Women's Union of Soc Trang Province.

Organizing this program, Vietnam Women's Publishing House hopes that each student here will be a "Leader of Change" to change themselves in studying, training and helping to build their homeland to become more civilized and prosperous.
Information about Project 8:
The National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1719/QD-TTg dated October 14, 2022, including 10 component projects, of which the Vietnam Women's Union is assigned to preside over Project 8 "Implementing gender equality in ethnic minority and mountainous areas".
The project targets women and girls in particularly disadvantaged communes and villages in ethnic minority and mountainous areas with the aim of raising awareness, changing prejudices, caring for material and spiritual life, protecting and caring for women and children, achieving gender equality goals and focusing on effectively solving a number of urgent issues of women and children in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in the period 2021-2030.
Project 8 is implemented in provinces and cities including communes and villages in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, with priority given to particularly difficult areas, safe zone communes in regions II and I (communes that have not been recognized by competent authorities as meeting new rural standards or completing Program 135); border communes are determined according to documents of competent authorities.
