On July 11, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan chaired a working session with the People's Committee of Da Nang City on the planning and expansion plan for Da Nang and Chu Lai international airports.
With the view that aviation development must go hand in hand with tourism and high-tech industry, the leaders of the Ministry of Construction requested relevant parties to focus on removing land problems, completing planning documents, and creating a breakthrough to turn Da Nang into an international logistics and tourism center.

At the meeting, Mr. Tran Anh Vu, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) informed: ACV has a plan to expand Terminal T1 of Da Nang airport, increasing the capacity from 6 million passengers/year to 10 million passengers/year; Terminal T2 from 4 million international passengers/year to 6 million passengers/year.
Vice Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee, Le Quang Nam said: The city's viewpoint is to prioritize international visitors to Da Nang airport in the short term. Adjusting the airport planning is necessary, because many contents are no longer suitable to reality. The city agrees to prioritize expanding terminals T1 and T2 to serve international passengers, but in the long term, it is necessary to calculate the allocation and sharing of passengers, reducing the load on Da Nang airport by developing Chu Lai airport in parallel.
"Da Nang City will coordinate with relevant agencies to review and propose a synchronous planning project, and at the same time study traffic connection options between the two airports, ensuring convenience for passengers," said the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee.

According to Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan, the review and adjustment of the development planning of Da Nang airport and Chu Lai airport must aim to turn Da Nang city into a smart and sustainable city; integrating solutions such as smart transportation and switching to green energy.
The Deputy Minister of Construction emphasized that the aviation sector must develop in parallel with tourism. If tourism does not develop, aviation will also be affected. Da Nang Airport is oriented to welcome 25 million passengers by 2030 and 30 million passengers by 2050. Chu Lai Airport is oriented to be more open.
“Therefore, research is needed to make Da Nang airport operate effectively, so that passengers feel comfortable because of the connectivity from the airport to tourist areas,” Mr. Tuan affirmed.
According to the report on adjusting the planning of Chu Lai airport for the period 2021 - 2030 submitted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, this is a shared civil and military airport, level 4F airport and level 1 military airport. Capacity 10 million passengers/year and 50,000 tons of cargo/year.

In his concluding remarks, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Anh Tuan highly appreciated ACV for proactively sponsoring the completion of the planning dossier. Mr. Tuan requested ACV to promptly complete and submit it to the Ministry of Construction before September 2025. The Deputy Minister also emphasized that the review and adjustment of the planning must be linked to the orientation of developing Da Nang into a smart, sustainable city, prioritizing the integration of smart transportation solutions, green infrastructure, and at the same time building policies to strongly attract investment in high-tech industrial parks, logistics, and aviation services.
