Far from the crowded atmosphere of the examination areas, or the urgent, bustling atmosphere in the corridors, in the campus of Cho Ray Hospital there is a small, quiet spiritual corner. This place contributes to the spiritual support of relatives and patients treated here.
This place has statues of Buddha, Guanyin, Jesus, Virgin Mary… for people to pray according to their religious intentions. The statues are about 0.5 m to nearly 1 m high, placed on simple stone pillars, decorated with bright yellow flowers from visitors.

At 5 p.m. on a day close to the Lunar New Year 2024, the spiritual corner of Cho Ray Hospital was crowded with people coming to burn incense and pray for a quick recovery so they could reunite with their families for Tet.
Almost every afternoon, Ms. Ng. (living in District 6, Ho Chi Minh City) is pushed by her relatives to come here to pray in front of the statue of the Virgin Mary. After praying with her hands clasped for more than 30 minutes, Ms. Ng. shared with us: "I have rectal cancer that has metastasized to the lungs and am waiting for a doctor's consultation for radiation therapy. This Tet holiday, I have to spend Tet in the hospital. Luckily, my husband and two sons take care of me regularly. If I were alone, I wouldn't know how to cope."
Mrs. Ng. said that because she is old, she prays every day, hoping that her illness will subside and she will be healthier, so that she can live longer with her husband and children.
Opposite the statue of the Virgin Mary is a place of worship for Buddhists with statues of Buddha and Quan Am.

Ms. T. (living in Dong Nai province) shared that her family member had surgery near Tet. She often comes here to burn incense and pray for her family member to recover quickly. For Ms. T., as long as her family member is healthy, that is a great happiness and luck for the family in the new year.
There is also a statue of Quan Am in the Children's Hospital 2. There are many large and small statues here, because every family that comes to pray places a statue here on a stone pedestal, with words of gratitude written on it.
Mrs. L. (living in Binh Dinh) took her grandchild for a walk around the grounds of Children's Hospital 2 and shared with us that many families often invite statues here to pray for their children to recover from illness and get well soon.

Many other hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City also have solemn corners with statues of Buddha, God or other deities for patients and their relatives to place their faith in during illness and pain. This is also a private corner, a place for medical staff to pray after work.
