30-day suggestion to explore Phu Quoc

Việt NamViệt Nam03/12/2024

As the only place in Vietnam with a visa exemption policy of up to 30 days for all tourists in the world, Phu Quoc Island ( Kien Giang ) promises to bring many attractive and unforgettable experiences to those who visit.

In July, Travel Leisure voted Phu Quoc the second most beautiful island in the world , just after the famous Maldives at the World's Best Awards 2024. DestinAsian put Phu Quoc in the top 10 most wonderful islands in Asia. Most recently, Condé Nast Traveler announced that Phu Quoc created a hat trick when it was ranked in the top 3 most wonderful islands in the world for 3 consecutive years.

It is no coincidence that Phu Quoc is called the “hidden gem” of Southeast Asia. The more time you spend on the island, the more unique features you will discover. Below is a suggested 30-day itinerary for visitors to fully experience the pearl island.

Week 1: Enjoy the “tropical paradise” in the South Island

Phu Quoc is the first coastal city and the largest island in Vietnam, possessing invaluable natural conditions for tourism development such as temperate climate, warm sunshine all year round, rolling hills, 28 large and small islands and 14 wide beaches. If Phu Quoc is known as a beautiful pearl, the South Island is the most perfect cut, with beautiful beaches and the largest coral conservation area in Phu Quoc.

In the South of the island, the two most prominent beaches are Bai Kem and Bai Sao. These beaches are remembered by many tourists thanks to their wide sandy shores and characteristic fine white sand. You will be surprised when you first touch the sand at Bai Kem, feeling the smoothness and coolness like ice cream.

Kem Beach also impresses with its very gentle sandy shore, about 300-400m from shore but the water is still only up to the knees. This creates an impressive scene like a giant infinity mirror at dawn and dusk, making visitors feel like they are one with the sky and the sea.

There are many accommodations for visitors to choose from in the South Island.

Explore Bai Kem in many different ways. One day enjoy the peace by sunbathing all day, one day make friends with the locals to play sports on the sand, one day go kayaking or try adventure sports. If you want to “change the wind”, you can go to Bai Sao nearby, swim and watch fishermen go out to sea every dawn.

Regarding accommodation, you can choose high-end resorts at Bai Kem to enjoy private space or go to small hotels nearby if you want to save costs.

Week 2: Immerse yourself in local life in Duong Dong

After feeling enough peace and blending in with the beautiful nature of the South Island, tourists can experience the second vibrant and colorful week in Duong Dong. This is where tourists can easily learn about the lives of the indigenous people.

Rent a motorbike to explore Duong Dong early in the morning, observing life at the colorful seafood markets. Then, you can spend time exploring the local eateries and cafes.

For lunch and dinner, you can enjoy seafood or try some restaurants that are popular with Westerners such as: bun quay, durian pizza, Japanese noodles, Hanoi pho or Nam Dinh pho... In the evening in Duong Dong, don't forget to explore Phu Quoc night market to buy souvenirs at affordable prices.

Visitors can enjoy fresh seafood in Duong Dong.

In addition to culinary and entertainment experiences, if you are a lover of cultural tourism, you can spend time exploring the spiritual life of the coastal people at Dinh Cau.

With an age of about 100 years, this is where fishermen worship Cau Quy, Cau Tai and Chua Ngoc Nuong Nuong to pray for peace when going out to sea, as well as good luck for their families. Thanks to its prime location on a rocky outcrop stretching out to the sea, Dinh Cau is also sought after by tourists to admire the majestic scenery and enjoy the cool, pleasant air from the ocean.

Week 3: Discover the unique features of the North Island

Moving from the South of the island to the North of the island, you will see the color change of the sand. If the beaches in the South of the island have cream-white sand, then in the middle of the island such as Bai Truong, Bai Dai, the sand is darker.

A week is a perfect amount of time to explore the North Island. Spend the first few days exploring the primeval forests of Phu Quoc National Park, joining the island’s treasure hunt tours and admiring the picturesque streams.

Then, spend the next one or two days exploring the pristine beaches at Ganh Dau and Rach Vem. This is also the area with the most starfish in Phu Quoc. You can rent a canoe to Ham Rong beach to see these beautiful sea creatures with your own eyes.

The North Island also has many attractive entertainment areas, suitable for families. Typical examples are the Safari Zoo, VinWonders Park with fairy tale themes, or Grand World recreating a Venice with typical gondolas.

Week 4: Many exciting experiences in Sunset town

Sunset Town in the South of the island will be an emotional destination, ending the journey to explore Phu Quoc with many exciting experiences.

This place has been praised by international media for owning the Guinness World Record for the longest 3-wire cable car in the world to Hon Thom Island. Inspired by the islands in Polynesia, Hon Thom "treats" guests with Kaya entertainment shows, vibrant pool parties... You will probably have to spend at least a day playing in the water park, then experience the thrill of the only wooden roller coaster in Vietnam.

Then, spend about 2 days exploring every corner of Hoang Hon town with street corners filled with bougainvillea. In the afternoon, go to Cau Hon - the destination where couples express their love and watch the most beautiful sunset in Phu Quoc.

Every night at 10pm, the town of Sunset treats visitors with brilliant fireworks displays.

The sunset opens a series of art performances in the dreamy town. The show “Symphony by the River” performed at Hoang Hon beach, with the combination of jetski & flyboards, lights, water cannons and fireworks will bring many emotions to the audience. With the show “Kiss of the Sea”, visitors will witness a program with the participation of 60 international artists, combining 8 types of performances.

Every night at 10pm, Sunset Town treats visitors to brilliant fireworks displays, making every night of your vacation memorable.

The 30-day itinerary above may not have explored all the beauty of the pearl island, but it also suggests many interesting and unique activities for those who intend to travel to Phu Quoc. This island still has many unique experiences, waiting for you to continue experiencing. Phu Quoc will always surprise you every time you return here.
