Users can use Google Bard to create images using the Imagen 2 text-to-image model. Bard is powered by Google's large Gemini Pro language model, which can generate many images. Many experts believe Gemini Ultra is under development and will have even more powerful features.
Google Bard allows users to create images for free, competing with OpenAI's ChatGPT.
Google has stated that Bard is a worthy competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus, which runs on GPT-4 and allows users to create images thanks to its integrated DALL-E 3. Both chatbots work well, but Bard's lack of text-to-image functionality gives ChatGPT Plus an advantage. Users can use Bard, updated with Imagen 2, for free, unlike ChatGPT Plus, which requires a subscription and payment, according to The Verge .
The use of AI for image creation has recently come under criticism after fake pornographic images of singer Taylor Swift flooded X (formerly Twitter). While it's still unknown which platform the creators of those fake images used, several tech companies have blocked the image-generating platform.
Google says Bard's image capabilities are "responsibly designed." The company's image blurring feature is applied to each pixel of the image, allowing viewers to distinguish that the image was created by AI. Google also says it has implemented safety and technical safeguards to avoid creating images of celebrities and to limit violent, offensive, or pornographic content.
Image creation won't be limited to Bard. Google has released a new experimental image tool powered by Imagen 2 called ImageFX – allowing users to create images using simple text prompts to experiment with AI generation. Like Bard, all images created through ImageFX will be tagged by SynthID and adhere to Google's AI guidelines and technical barriers. Currently, image creation is only possible with commands in English.
