2025 faces 3 major cybersecurity threats
Topping the list is artificial intelligence (AI). While AI has the potential to be a powerful tool in cyber defense, it is also a top 'trick' used by bad actors to attack. Google predicts that AI-powered cyberattacks will increase in frequency and sophistication by 2025, especially deepfakes, vishing, and phishing.
The second threat comes from government-sponsored cyberattacks. Amid escalating geopolitical tensions, countries like Russia, China, Iran and North Korea are expected to continue targeting critical infrastructure globally, Google said.
Ultimately, ransomware remains the most persistent threat, with increasing frequency and severity. Ransomware attacks are more diverse and sophisticated, targeting a wide range of users around the world .
Additionally, Google also warned of an increase in credential theft campaigns, as attack tools become increasingly accessible, even to low-skilled attackers.
Faced with these challenges, Google calls on businesses to be vigilant, invest in advanced security solutions and work closely with cybersecurity experts to protect their data and systems.
