The size of the investment is unclear, nor is it clear when Google will make a decision, but sources say internal talks are ongoing and the data center could be ready by 2027.

A Google spokesperson declined to comment on the data center plans.

Hyperscale data centers are among the largest in the industry, boasting superior computing power, massive storage capacity, large network infrastructure, and energy consumption comparable to that of a large city. In a report on data centers in Vietnam by real estate consultancy Jones Lang LaSalle, the cost of a 50MW hyperscale data center will be between $300 million and $650 million.

According to the source, Google's move comes from the large number of domestic and foreign cloud service customers in Vietnam as well as the country's growing digital economy . In addition, Vietnam is also one of the fastest growing markets for online video sharing platform YouTube.

Previously, in May 2024, Nikkei Asia also reported that Alibaba was considering building a data center in Vietnam. However, the Chinese company declined to comment on the information.
