Speaking at the meeting, Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh, President of the Academy expressed his joy at meeting again the traditional partners who have been associated with the Academy for the past 40 years, and respectfully welcomed prestigious French research and training units to visit and work with the Academy for the first time such as: Paris Cité University, France Campus, Paris Polytechnic Institute... USTH is honored to be the only destination in the field ofeducation and training chosen by French President Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Vietnam.
Professor, Academician Chau Van Minh also emphasized: The Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has a long-standing, strong cooperative relationship with French scientific organizations, starting in 1983 when CNRS became the first Western scientific organization to sign a cooperation agreement with a Vietnamese national research institute.
Effective cooperation in many fields of basic research and technology has helped the Academy continuously expand its relations with major partners such as: IRD, French Agency for Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies (CEA), CNES, National Institute for Marine Science and Technology (IFREMER), French National Museum of Natural History (MNHN), and leading university networks such as: Paris 6, Sorbonne, Paris-Saclay, Paris Cité...
At the meeting, delegates from both sides reviewed the outstanding cooperation results in the fields of basic science, marine environment, energy, artificial intelligence and space technology, especially the joint training models between USTH, research institutes under VAST and French universities.
Within the framework of the working session, delegates also focused on discussing and exchanging experiences in training high-quality human resources in the fields of science, technology, public health care, etc.
In order to successfully train high-quality human resources, especially in the field of public health care, French delegates shared some experiences in building medical programs and majors for USTH.
In addition, to motivate students and postgraduates to study in depth in the fields of science, technology and healthcare, French institutions and schools are willing to grant scholarships to students and postgraduates who want to study in France.
Vice President of the Academy, Professor, Dr. Chu Hoang Ha proposed promoting integrated training models for research, co-supervision of PhDs, expanding international science schools, forming cooperative laboratories as well as connecting 3 parties between institutes-schools-enterprises to commercialize research results. Strengthening training and research connections through promoting the model of "training associated with research", especially at the postgraduate level, linking USTH with VAST research institutes; expanding co-supervision of PhDs, towards a training model at the same level with French partners.
Promoting applied research and technology transfer: Research and develop a pilot model of Vietnamese/French research institutes-USTH-Vietnamese/French enterprises to commercialize joint research results of the two sides; coordinate to develop research capacity and technology transfer in priority areas such as: renewable energy, marine environment, artificial intelligence, big data, etc.
At the meeting, the delegates also agreed to approve a number of contents and signed cooperation documents including: VAST-CNRS Action Plan for the period 2025-2028; Memorandum of Understanding between VAST and Paris Cité University; USTH-IRD Cooperation Plan; Agreement on implementing a joint research project between USTH, CNRS and the Institute of Materials Science.
These cooperation agreements demonstrate the determination of both sides in diversifying content, expanding partnerships and deepening cooperation mechanisms, aiming to form joint strategic programs between Vietnam and France in the fields of science, technology and training of high-quality human resources.
Thereby, opening up new, more strategic and practical cooperation directions, especially in the context of the two countries implementing the Vietnam-France Action Plan for the period 2024-2028, aiming to effectively implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the French Republic in the era of innovation and sustainable development.
