Gyokeres closes the future

Viktor Gyokeres, the striker who is playing well at Sporting Lisbon, is said to have decided to move to the Premier League.

According to talkSPORT , the Swedish player has chosen his next destination and it will most likely be Arsenal, the team leading the race for his signature.

Gyokeres, 26, moved to Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and quickly created a fever in Portugal, scoring 95 goals in 99 appearances, an incredible performance that caught the attention of many European giants.

With Arsenal and Manchester United both struggling with the striker position, Gyokeres has emerged as the perfect solution thanks to his versatile goalscoring ability and ideal physique.

Gyokeres is a striker that many clubs covet.

Although Gyokeres' contract with Sporting has a release clause of £85m, the Portuguese side are now said to be willing to negotiate for around £58m, a figure that is much more accessible than other targets such as Alexander Isak (who Newcastle value at £150m).

Arsenal are preparing for a turbulent summer transfer window after failing to win any silverware this season. Despite finishing just one place behind Liverpool, the Gunners have scored 17 fewer goals – a statistic that clearly shows the lack of a quality centre-forward. Mikel Merino and Kai Havertz have both failed to live up to expectations in that role, while a true striker is still what manager Mikel Arteta is looking for.

With Viktor Gyokeres on the verge of becoming the first player from outside Europe's top five leagues to win the European Golden Boot in 23 years, his presence at the Emirates could help Arsenal improve their attack and challenge for major honours next season.

Meanwhile, Manchester United, who have scored just 42 goals in the Premier League this season, are also keen on the Swedish striker. However, despite having the advantage of coach Ruben Amorim having worked with Gyokeres, the Red Devils appear to be being overtaken by Arsenal.

Although Gyokeres has yet to comment on his future, the fact that Arsenal's sporting director Edu Gaspar is a long-time admirer of his suggests that a move could be on the cards in the next transfer window.
