Ha Nam: Developing Tam Chuc into an attractive tourism ecosystem

On the afternoon of May 29, 2025, at Tam Chuc Hotel, Kim Bang Town, Ha Nam Province, Ha Nam Tourism Promotion Center in coordination with Hanoi UNESCO Travel Club organized a discussion with the theme "Tam Chuc - Tourism products in the saturated era".

This is a sideline activity of the “Conference on promoting investment in tourism development in Ha Nam province in 2025”, within the series of events “Ha Nam Culture - Tourism Week in 2025”, with the participation of nearly 200 delegates who are experts in the field of tourism, representatives of travel businesses and the press.

Ha Nam tourism leaves a strong impression

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Director of Ha Nam Tourism Promotion Center Nguyen Duc Nguyen said that Ha Nam tourism has made remarkable progress in recent times, leaving a strong impression on domestic and foreign tourists. This is thanks to the great contribution of businesses that have joined hands with state management agencies to create attractive tourism products, notably Tam Chuc Tourist Area, which has been approved by the Prime Minister in the Master Plan for the development of national tourist areas until 2030.

“With its unique cultural and spiritual values, natural landscapes and rich ecosystems, Tam Chuc Tourist Area has become an impressive tourist destination on the Vietnam tourism map, attracting millions of visitors every year, contributing greatly to the development of Ha Nam Tourism” - Mr. Nguyen Duc Nguyen emphasized.

Ha Nam possesses natural conditions, unique cultural characteristics and converges many factors to develop types of tourism such as eco-spiritual tourism, cultural-festival tourism, resort-medical tourism. In addition, Ha Nam has a favorable location, adjacent to the capital Hanoi on the North-South corridor, the gateway of the provinces in the Red River Delta and the southern provinces to Hanoi. This is a very important advantage, creating opportunities for Ha Nam to attract the cross-Vietnam tourist market, the weekend tourist market of the capital Hanoi and neighboring provinces to create breakthrough developments in tourism. The geographical location also creates favorable conditions for Ha Nam in economic development exchanges, so cooperation and integration are very important strategies for Ha Nam Tourism.

In order to attract investment in the tourism sector, in recent years, Ha Nam province has had many mechanisms and policies to support and encourage investors, especially for large-scale tourism projects. Ha Nam has increased its participation in activities to connect and cooperate in tourism development with localities across the country, especially the provinces in the Red River Delta. In addition, Ha Nam Tourism focuses on communication and promotion of tourism - cultural products and development of ecosystems associated with tourism development, thereby contributing to widely spreading the image of Ha Nam Tourism to the public.

Tam Chuc tourist area is maintaining its special position - a land converging spiritual spirit, ecological beauty and now a breakthrough in service with a series of new products and experiences launched in 2025, promising to turn this place into a model tourism ecosystem in the North.

Mr. Tran Thanh Sang, Sales Director of Chan Tam Service Tourism Company, Manager of Tam Chuc Tourist Area, shared that one of the attractive highlights in Tam Chuc today is the series of cruise services in the middle of Luc Nhac Lake, including the "afternoon tea cruise" program. Cruises in Tam Chuc are becoming an independent experience space, where visitors can leisurely admire the mountains, reflect on the water, and enjoy tea and cakes while listening to melodious music. The itineraries are flexibly designed, from a visit to Tam Chuc communal house, Mau temple to a journey connecting the large shrines in the inner palace.

Not only stopping at a single experience, Tam Chuc has launched a service package for tourists who want to combine pilgrimage, cuisine and relaxation in one day. The unique point of this service lies in the connection between cultural, spiritual and gentle resort elements, very suitable for families, groups of elderly guests or foreign tourists who want to learn about the identity of Vietnamese Buddhism.

Mr. Sang said that in recent times, Tam Chuc's accommodation area has been significantly upgraded, aiming for high convenience and aesthetics. The hotel system here has a modern oriental architectural style, combined with a quiet, green space, very suitable for long-term stays. The system of halls and meeting rooms is fully equipped, suitable for organizing large events, in a solemn, luxurious space that is still close to nature. Speaking at the seminar, CEO of VietSense Travel Nguyen Van Tai affirmed that Tam Chuc has been and is a famous and familiar destination for the individual tourist market. However, the problem here is that seasonality is still very clear. To solve this problem, there needs to be a new, more proactive and flexible approach in the strategy of cooperating with travel businesses and operating the destination as a true service business unit.

Regarding the strategy of exploiting the international tourist market at Tam Chuc Tourist Area, as well as the potential to connect with major partners from Korea, Mr. Nguyen Huu Lam - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aritour Company, commented that Tam Chuc needs to expand and effectively exploit the international tourist segment, especially visitors from Northeast Asia such as Korea, Japan, China, as well as distant markets such as Europe and the US.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Thang - Director of S-Travel Lao Cai Tourism Company, Tam Chuc Tourist Area is not only a spiritual tourism center, but also a diverse destination complex, capable of retaining visitors every day, all year round and in many segments. Therefore, one of the important directions is to develop products associated with traditional craft villages and indigenous culture. In addition, Tam Chuc can develop river tourism products and outdoor sports. “Located in the middle of an area with three large rivers - of which the Day River and the Nhue River are two important routes that can connect to Hanoi. Organizing a discovery journey by bicycle - boat - walking (trekking) is completely feasible. This is a type of activity that international tourists love, and at the same time helps disperse the flow of visitors, reducing pressure at central spiritual sites. Experiential programs for students can be designed according to the "early-grade adventure" model, with challenges, secret letters and historical stories integrated. In addition, Tam Chuc also needs to develop independent, marketable products to exploit the depth of the product and expand the market in a directional way," Mr. Thang suggested.
