According to Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the Department is calculating digital transformation and deploying a Geographic Information System (GIS digital map) to serve the enrollment work for grades 1 and 6. At that time, students will be assigned to enrollment routes according to the positioning system of the digital map.
“Students will be able to study at schools near their homes instead of being assigned to wards as is currently the case,” said the leader of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training. If digital maps are used to assign students, the distance from home to school can be calculated, making it easier for students and parents to travel.

Previously, Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City announced that the enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year will allocate study places based on students' actual residence, regardless of administrative boundaries.
Students in the same ward, some are accepted into local schools, while others will have to study in neighboring areas, ensuring the distance from home to school is no more than 4-7km (no more than 4km for preschool and primary school children; no more than 7km for secondary school students).
Ho Chi Minh City will pilot primary school admissions based on the principle of prioritizing students to attend schools near their homes from 2023. Districts are required to arrange study places for students near their homes, instead of strictly dividing them by ward.
Stabilizing enrollment for grades 1 and 6 for the 2025-2026 school year
According to the plan, from July 1, Hanoi will organize the enrollment of 5-year-old preschool, grade 1 and 6 students for the 2025-2026 school year by the selection method according to the route prescribed and guided by the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities. However, from July 1, the new government apparatus after the arrangement throughout the city will officially operate, while the enrollment plan for preschool, grade 1 and 6 has been approved before, many parents are worried that the enrollment organization may encounter some shortcomings.
Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha affirmed that the goal set in organizing exams and admissions in the city in 2025 is to ensure progress and quality, without causing disruption or affecting students.
"Although the administrative unit has changed, Hanoi city still maintains the plan and time for organizing preschool enrollment, grade 1 and 6 enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year. The city assigned the Department of Education and Training to coordinate with the Department of Culture and Sports to strengthen communication with parents and students about this content," Ms. Ha emphasized.
