Hanoi's weather is at its coldest since the beginning of winter this year, many people still keep the habit of swimming in the Red River to exercise despite the bone-chilling cold, with temperatures of only 13 degrees Celsius.
In recent days, the weather in Hanoi has become harsh. The temperature has dropped to 13 degrees Celsius, which can affect the health, life and activities of the people. However, some people still keep the habit of swimming in the Red River, despite the bone-chilling cold.
According to Dan Viet reporters, from 6am on December 12, the area near the foot of Long Bien bridge (Hanoi), the temperature was only 13 degrees Celsius, despite the cold weather, many people still formed groups to go swimming together.
For those addicted to bathing in the river, they believe that bathing every day will bring health and help relieve the pressures of life.
Before going into the river to bathe, everyone warms up by doing pull-ups or running a few laps on the bank.
Because the water is deep, people who bathe here must prepare life jackets to wear around their bodies.
Bathing in the Red River has become a habit of many people in this area regardless of the weather.
Many people do not mind the bone-chilling cold, strip naked and soak in the water.
Swim confidently underwater despite the cold weather.
Not only men, many women also participate in swimming in cold weather.
According to people who regularly swim in the Red River, the water under the river is warmer than on the surface so swimmers do not feel too cold, only cold when warming up and coming ashore.
Maintaining the habit of bathing in the Red River for the past 20 years, Mr. Tran Ngoc Dam (85 years old, Long Bien district) said that before bathing, he must warm up his body before getting into the water, to avoid heat shock when suddenly exposed to cold water.
"No matter if it's sunny or rainy, hot or cold, I still come here every day to exercise. Actually, bathing in the river on days when the weather is very cold like this is not as cold as people think. Just warm up a bit and then go in to bathe, you will feel normal and get used to it right away. Swimming every day makes my body healthier," Mr. Dam shared.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Khanh (Dong Da, Hanoi) said that he often comes here all year round regardless of the weather or temperature. "The water in the river is warmer than the temperature on the shore, so you just need to warm up thoroughly and gradually get into the water to be able to swim. Swimming in the cold season is great because it makes your body feel healthier," Mr. Khanh shared.
Ms. Nguyen Bich Luu shared: “Swimming here has become a habit for us to exercise. Before going swimming, everyone has to warm up and bring a swimming buoy.”
It is known that older people will warm up thoroughly and usually swim close to shore for 15-20 minutes. Young, healthy people swim underwater for about 30-45 minutes, some even swim for up to an hour.
These are members of the long-established Song Hong swimming club.
The members of the swimming club are mainly middle-aged, over 40 years old. Therefore, when traveling and not swimming, they have to wear many layers of clothing to ensure their health.
In addition to swimming, many people also exercise to improve their health right on the banks of the Red River.
The Red River beach is a famous place for swimming enthusiasts in the capital. Throughout the four seasons, whether it is hot or cold, there are still people coming here to swim.
