In order to strengthen propaganda work, raise awareness of people and the community to proactively implement measures to prevent dengue fever, on the morning of May 23, the Hanoi Department of Health organized a conference to respond to the 15th ASEAN Dengue Day (June 15, 2025).

Speaking at the Conference, Dr. Duong Chi Nam - Deputy Director of the Department of Disease Prevention ( Ministry of Health ) informed that Hanoi is one of the hot spots recording dengue fever cases, so wards and communes need to have specific plans for dengue fever prevention to clearly demonstrate the responsibilities of all levels and sectors and allocate funds for dengue fever prevention.

In May, the dengue fever season begins, so epidemic prevention work must be taken seriously right now, epidemic prevention must be proactive. Epidemic prevention work aims to promote the role of each citizen, each household, each residential group, ensuring that dengue fever prevention activities are continuous and long-term.

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hung - Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Health said that since the beginning of the year, the city has recorded 251 cases of dengue fever in 28/30 districts, towns, and cities, and has not recorded any complicated outbreaks or many patients. However, through monitoring and evaluating the dengue fever epidemic situation in the world , in Vietnam as well as in Hanoi over the past many years, the health sector believes that the dengue fever situation in the coming months will have complicated developments and dengue fever prevention will still face many difficulties.

The reasons are due to climate and weather changes that are favorable for the development of disease-carrying mosquitoes; poor living habits of a part of the population; urbanization, construction sites, cemetery areas, many objects and locations with stagnant water, sleeping without mosquito nets, not taking proactive disease prevention measures; the co-circulation of many types of Dengue virus; the mobilization of the community and human resources for mosquito larvae eradication activities and chemical spraying in many places is still difficult; the risk of overloading the treatment system if the epidemic spreads widely...

Since May 2024, the dengue fever vaccine has been licensed by the Ministry of Health for use in Vietnam, opening up new hope in epidemic prevention. However, the vaccine is currently only deployed in service vaccination, so measures to prevent and control dengue fever are still environmental sanitation to kill larvae and Aedes mosquitoes, the results of which depend largely on the awareness and self-awareness of the people and the community.

To prevent dengue fever, Hanoi requires 100% of communes, wards and towns to carry out at least one mosquito larvae eradication campaign in the area. Local departments, sectors and organizations together with the people carry out general environmental sanitation measures to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, kill mosquito larvae by treating water containers that are at risk of having mosquito larvae or already have mosquito larvae, collecting waste, overturning unused water containers, releasing fish into open water tanks, miniature landscapes, changing water in flower vases and aquatic plants weekly...

Hanoi has launched a campaign to spray chemicals to kill adult mosquitoes on a large scale at high-risk areas such as: old epidemic areas, construction sites, public areas, cemeteries, markets, rental areas, places with high mosquito larvae and mosquito density indexes, places with many dengue fever patients, etc.

In response to the 15th ASEAN Dengue Prevention Day, delegates participated in supervising the parade, general environmental sanitation to kill mosquito larvae, and spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes at construction sites, schools, public areas, etc. at Phuc Tan Primary School, Hoan Kiem District./.
