According to the announcement about class placement for the next school year, Phan Huy Chu High School informed that there are no selective classes. Class division is mainly based on registration according to the training program of each type of Natural Science class or Social Science class and English proficiency.

“The school does not process requests to change classes during the 3-year course. After 1 year of studying in grade 10, if students wish to change class type, they must obtain the approval of the school’s Board of Directors and make up for the number of missed classes according to the 2018 General Education Program,” the school announced.

According to the 2018 General Education Program, when students finish secondary school and enter grade 10, in addition to 8 compulsory subjects (Literature, Mathematics, English, History, PhysicalEducation , National Defense and Security Education, Experiential Activities, Career Guidance, Local Education Content), they will be able to choose a group of subjects based on their own abilities and strengths. This orientation is considered suitable for the career orientation goals at high school level and is also a new point, a difference compared to the 2006 program.

In fact, after a period of studying, there are still students who realize they are "going the wrong way" and want to "turn around", but transferring schools and classes is difficult.

Therefore, before entering high school, parents and students should carefully research the program and subjects to make appropriate choices based on their abilities and career orientation.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Phan Huy Chu High School will enroll 400 students in 10 classes. Of which, 150 students will be recruited based on academic records and 250 students will be recruited based on the 10th grade entrance exam scores of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

With the admission method based on transcripts, this school also divides the Natural Science class into 50% of the quota; the Social Science class into 50% of the quota.

With this type, only students with Good academic results and Good training results in all years of secondary school are eligible to apply.

Accordingly, academic performance scores are calculated according to the formula: Each year of good academic performance is counted as 5 points, good as 4 points; average scores of Math, Literature, English for 4 years of study. For grade 9, only the average score of the first semester is counted.

In addition, candidates with awards in cultural competitions, scientific and technical research competitions, startup idea competitions in the list of competitions organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, Departments of Education and Training of provinces and cities, and competitions sent by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to compete internationally will receive additional points.

National and international prizes are awarded from 7-10 points, equivalent to the Encouragement Prize to First Prize.

Winning city-level prizes, students will get 3 to 6 points added; winning district-level prizes will get 1 to 3 points added.

In addition, this school also gives priority points to students with English certificates from 2 to 10 points.

Thus, for the method of considering transcripts, the school's method of calculating admission scores is: Academic score + subject score + bonus points (if any).

For the admission method based on the 10th grade entrance exam scores of the Department of Education and Training, after having the standard scores for public high schools, the school will announce the qualifying scores (floor scores) and enter them into the school's admission system. After candidates enter the data, the school will consider from the highest score down until the quota is full. Families with a second child studying at the school will be given 0.5 points priority compared to the standard score.

In the 2025-2026 school year, Phan Huy Chu High School plans to charge a tuition fee of VND58.5 million/school year/9 months (the collection will only be implemented when there is a decision from the City People's Council). The tuition fee does not include the IELTS certificate exam fee, graphic design certificate and ESB startup certificate issued by Cetiport. In addition, students will pay a boarding fee of VND50,000/meal.

Phan Huy Chu High School is located in Dong Da District, a self-financed public school. In 2023, parents lined up overnight at the school gate to reserve a spot to submit their 10th grade application and secure a place for their children. In the following years, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training required schools to enroll online, ending the situation of lining up to reserve a spot to submit application.
