Hanoi is about to start construction on 2 metro lines and 6 large bridges

As planned, the Hanoi People's Committee will start the construction project of urban railway line (metro) No. 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section and metro project No. 5, Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Lang - Hoa Lac in October.

Metro line No. 3, Hanoi station - Yen So (Hoang Mai) section, metro line No. 2, Tran Hung Dao - Thuong Dinh section; metro line No. 2, Nam Thang Long - Noi Bai section and metro line No. 2A, extended section to Xuan Mai will be implemented in the 2026-2030 period.

Hanoi's plan also determines to complete the underground section and put the entire Nhon - Hanoi Railway Station metro line into operation in 2027.

In addition to the Tu Lien Bridge, which has just started construction, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that the city is continuing to direct investors to complete documents and start construction on a series of 6 major bridge projects to start construction this year, such as Hong Ha Bridge, Me So Bridge (Ring Road 4); Thuong Cat Bridge, Ngoc Hoi Bridge (Ring Road 3.5); Tran Hung Dao Bridge and Van Phuc Bridge.

Metro Line 2, Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao section, is 11.5km long, with 8.9km underground and 2.6km elevated. This metro line has 7 underground stations and 3 elevated stations.

The total preliminary investment of the project is nearly 35,600 billion VND, an increase of more than 16,000 billion VND compared to the investment policy first approved in 2008.

The starting point of the project is Nam Thang Long along Nguyen Van Huyen extended street - Hoang Quoc Viet - Hoang Hoa Tham - Thuy Khue - Phan Dinh Phung - Hang Giay - Hang Duong - Hang Ngang - Hang Dao - Dinh Tien Hoang - Hang Bai; the end point intersects with Tran Hung Dao street.

Metro Line No. 5 has a total investment of more than 61,900 billion VND. The project starts at the Van Cao - Hoang Hoa Tham intersection (Lieu Giai ward, Ba Dinh district), the end point is in the area 5km from Hoa Lac intersection towards Hoa Binh , in Thanh Binh commune, Thach That district.

The total length of the project is more than 38km in the direction of Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Thang Long Boulevard - Ring Road 4 - Hoa Lac (about more than 6km underground, about 2km elevated and about 30km on the road). This route has 21 stations including 6 underground stations and 15 above ground stations.

Hanoi has put into operation line 2A (Cat Linh - Ha Dong section) since November 2021 with a length of 13km, while line 3 (Nhon - Hanoi station section) has exploited the elevated section from Nhon to Cau Giay with a length of 8.5km since August 2024.

According to Decision No. 1569 dated December 12, 2024 of the Prime Minister approving the Hanoi Capital Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the city will invest in building 14 more urban railway lines.

These routes include route 1 (Ngoc Hoi - Yen Vien - Lac Dao); route 1A (Ngoc Hoi - Second Airport), route 2 (Noi Bai - Nam Thang Long - Tran Hung Dao - Cho Mo - Nga Tu So - Hoang Quoc Viet and the extension to Soc Son); route 2A (Ha Dong - Xuan Mai section), route 3 (Hanoi Railway Station - Hoang Mai section and Nhon - Son Tay section); route 4 (Me Linh - Sai Dong - Lien Ha).

In addition, there are also route number 5 (Van Cao - Hoa Lac), route number 6 (Noi Bai - Phu Dien - Ha Dong - Ngoc Hoi), route number 7 (Me Linh - Duong Noi - Ha Dong), route number 8 (Son Dong - Mai Dich - Ring Road 3 - Linh Nam - Duong Xa), route number 9 (Me Linh - Co Loa - Duong Xa), route number 10 (Cat Linh - Lang Ha - Le Van Luong - Yen Nghia), route number 11 (Ring Road 2 - Southern axis - Second airport); route number 12 (Son Tay - Hoa Lac - Xuan Mai - Phu Xuyen).
