– From Lai Chau, Nghe An to Vinh Long and the Central Highlands and South Central provinces, Hanoi is establishing a wide cooperation network, creating a cross-Vietnam linkage axis to improve product standards, expand markets and push Vietnamese tourism closer to international visitors.

Hanoi - Lai Chau strengthens corridor to welcome international visitors
Mr. Tran Quang Khang - Deputy Director of Lai Chau Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, commented that this famtrip activity did not stop at introducing resources but also helped Hanoi businesses access a full range of typical products, from Sin Suoi Ho meeting ASEAN community tourism standards to Si Thau Chai paragliding or O Quy Ho Heaven Gate sightseeing route. According to him, the accommodation infrastructure with five-star hotels and more than one hundred and thirty establishments is creating a foundation for Lai Chau to be ready to receive an increasing segment of international visitors.
The Hoang Lien Son tunnel project is considered by Mr. Khang as a strategic factor. When the time to cross Hoang Lien Pass is shortened to eight minutes, the accessibility to the destination will change completely. This opens up the opportunity to position the Hanoi - Lai Chau route as a journey that can compete with other highland destinations in the region.
From a market perspective, Mr. Tran Trung Hieu - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism, said that the quality of this survey has reached the necessary depth for the two localities to start entering the stage of building international tours, instead of just stopping at connecting activities. He highly appreciated Lai Chau's proactive selection of destinations suitable for the tastes of European, American, Australian, Japanese and Korean tourists, helping Hanoi inbound businesses have accurate data to design products.
Business opinions add depth to the cooperation strategy. Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat - Vice President of Hanoi Tourism Association, said that Lai Chau is possessing the original advantages that many highland areas have lost, but to convert the advantages into saleable products, it is necessary to raise the standards of places serving large groups such as O Quy Ho, and at the same time support the Mong community in Sin Suoi Ho to strive according to the criteria system "Best tourist village in the world".
Ms. Dang Thi Tho – Chief Representative of Phoenix Voyages, analyzed that the need for international visitors to find alternative destinations to Sa Pa is a clear trend. This opens up a “market gap” for Lai Chau, provided that the service infrastructure must be upgraded systematically, from homestay hygiene, medical information to safety at Pusamcap cave. According to her, the “latecomer” advantage helps Lai Chau avoid repeating the shortcomings that famous destinations have encountered.
All of this shows the convergence of three factors: pristine resources, government determination and the strong participation of Hanoi businesses. This is the basis for delegates at the seminar to agree that the focus in the coming time must be international promotion, in which Hanoi plays the role of gateway to welcome inbound visitors and is also the strongest promotional signal point of the whole country.
North-Central-South Linkage: Hanoi Expands Network and Creates New Connection Axis
Along with the Northwest, Hanoi continues to promote cooperation with Nghe An, Vinh Long and the Central Highlands - South Central provinces, creating an unprecedentedly wide network. Each locality adds its own color, opening up opportunities to build a cross-Vietnam journey with a clear regional identity.
In Nghe An, the survey trip from May 15 to 17 took place during the Sen Village Festival, which attracted a large number of tourists. The Hanoi delegation visited Chung Son Temple, Kim Lien Relic Site, surveyed Cua Lo, Hai Chau Cruise and new products at VinWonders Cua Hoi. After the trip, Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh - Director of Nghe An Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, shared that the locality welcomed nearly nine and a half million visitors in 2024, of which international visitors grew strongly thanks to upgraded infrastructure and the Hanoi - Vinh Expressway coming into operation.
Mr. Tran Trung Hieu suggested that the two localities focus on developing seasonal products, because Nghe An has a clear advantage with a series of experiences associated with Uncle Ho's heritage, Cua Lo beach and the community ecosystem of Western Nghe An. According to him, when Hanoi strongly supports communication and business connections, Nghe An can expand the two-way market more effectively.
The spirit of cooperation continues to spread strongly in Vinh Long, where the Conference on Promotion, Promotion and Cooperation in Tourism Development took place on November 5. The context of Vinh Long, Ben Tre and Tra Vinh merging to form a new administrative unit has made the Mekong Delta enter a more open development phase. Mr. Tran Trung Hieu sees this as an opportunity for Hanoi and the southern localities to build a cultural and ecological journey with depth.
Mr. Hoang Van Sum - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long, said that this cooperation helps the locality access the Northern tourist market more easily and expand its ability to welcome international visitors thanks to the strengths of the orchards, Khmer culture and craft villages.
At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat emphasized the feasibility of the Hanoi - Vinh Long - Can Tho - Tra Vinh route, because this is a journey combining the heritage of Thang Long and the colors of the Southern rivers. Mr. Truong Quoc Hung, Chairman of the Hanoi Unesco Travel Club, analyzed that Vinh Long's determination of safety, friendliness and quality criteria is the right direction to create a brand. He proposed to promote the communication of the story of "Con Ho oil lamp tourism", because the spread of a unique image will be much stronger than general promotional information.
At the end of September, Hanoi continued to expand cooperation with five provinces of Dak Lak, Gia Lai, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa and Quang Ngai at the promotion conference held in Buon Ma Thuot on September 24. The merger of localities in recent times has created conditions for the formation of large-scale products. Ms. Nhu Thi Ngan - General Director of Hanoitourism, commented that the psychology of geographical distance is decreasing, thereby opening up the possibility of designing inter-regional tour routes with more uniform quality.
Mr. Tran Hong Tien – Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province, emphasized that cooperation with Hanoi will help the locality promote the image of Central Highlands culture to the Northern and international tourist markets. According to him, Hanoi not only brings management experience but is also a “locomotive” in communication and product distribution.
Activities spanning from Lai Chau to the Southwest show that Hanoi is gradually creating a North-Central-South tourism axis with a seamless and unique product line. As the capital expands cooperation, localities have more effective access to international markets, while inbound businesses in Hanoi possess more resources to build attractive cross-Vietnam itineraries. Consensus on strategy and communication is creating a new momentum, paving the way for Vietnamese tourism to be more clearly positioned on the world map.
