The painting “Vinh quy bai to” is located in the Tien Duong house, Thai Hoc area. This is a unique work, achieving two Vietnamese records, which are: The largest hand-carved sculpture “Vinh quy bai to” on a single block of wood in Vietnam; The wooden painting “Vinh quy bai to” has the largest number of characters in Vietnam. The work marks the creative effort and aspiration to honor the nation’s tradition of studiousness.

The work is made from rare rosewood, 8.33m long, 1.70m wide, 16cm thick. The painting vividly depicts the journey of the imperial examination - from childhood studying with a teacher, to the tent to take the provincial exam, then to the capital to take the national exam, to have his name on the golden board and to be granted by the king to return to the village in the Vinh Quy ceremony.

The composition of the painting follows the artistic principle of “dynamic energy”, the procession resembles a winding dragon - a symbol associated with the name Thang Long - Hanoi. The landscape and characters are elaborately depicted, with the appearance of all ancient social classes: scholars, farmers, workers, merchants, fishermen, woodcutters, farmers, and shepherds.
In particular, the images of Ngo Mon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace, Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, Khue Van Cac, village gate, banyan tree, well, communal house yard... blend in the bustling festival atmosphere, creating a vivid wooden epic.

Not only is it an honor for the successful individuals, the Vinh Quy Bai To ceremony is also a symbol of Vietnamese morality: respect for teachers, filial piety, village solidarity, the desire to serve the country, honoring learning, encouraging talents to contribute their strength to the country. In folklore, the image of "Vinh Quy Bai To" is also considered a symbol of respect for learning and appreciation for learners.
At the reception ceremony, Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam Le Xuan Kieu said: Placing the wooden painting "Vinh quy bai to" at Thai Hoc House has a particularly profound meaning. This is the most important educational and cultural space of Thang Long - Hanoi, a place to honor talents, promote learning and preserve the tradition of Vietnamese philosophy.

The work has become a highlight in the space of the Thai Hoc House's Front Hall, helping the public, especially the younger generation, better understand the ethics of studiousness, respect for teachers and the aspiration to serve the country. The presence of the painting at the Thai Hoc House is therefore a heartfelt reminder of the value of Vietnamese intelligence, while affirming the mission of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam in preserving and promoting cultural heritage, encouraging learning, arousing the spirit of studiousness, and nurturing talents for the country.

Sharing about the creative process, artisan Bui Trong Lang said: “The work is a passionate voice for our lifelong aspirations in the profession. Through the wood paintings, we wish to convey and honor the culture of our country, marking the immortal quintessence in the flow of national history.”
