The opening match of the 2023/2024 Premier League season is a clash between defending champions Man City and Burnley. Experts believe that the home team Burnley has little hope of winning points against Man City and that assessment quickly proved correct.
In the 4th minute, from Rodri's delicate first pass, Haaland rushed in to finish with a classy finish to open the score for Man City. The Norwegian striker became the first player to score this season and he only needed to touch the ball once to do this. Having an early advantage, Man City played excitedly and continued to put strong pressure on their opponents. They did not give Burnley many opportunities to attack.
Haaland shines in Man City's victory.
However, bad news soon came to coach Pep Guardiola when Kevin de Bruyne was injured and had to leave the field early. Meanwhile, the team's defense still made fans' hearts skip a beat when center-back Akanji and goalkeeper Ederson coordinated recklessly in the home field.
At that moment, Erling Haaland spoke up again. In the 36th minute, Alvarez passed to Haaland in the penalty area. He finished with an excellent one-touch shot to help Man City double the gap in the first half.
In the second half, the safe distance allowed Man City to play more calculatingly. They still controlled the game but did not attack with high intensity. This was a period of time when Haaland was unlucky. He had 2 more dangerous opportunities but unfortunately missed them. In the 75th minute, Rodri suddenly rose and this player finished dangerously to increase the score to 3-0.
A convincing win over Burnley got off to a good start in their quest to defend their Premier League title.
