2 Hanoi students won medals at the 2025 International Biology Olympiad
On the evening of July 26, the IBO 2025 award ceremony and summary ceremony took place. The IBO competition delegation of the Vietnamese team of 4 students won 01 gold medal, 02 silver medals and 01 bronze medal.
The Gold Medal winner was Nguyen Luong Thai Duy, an 11th grader from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. The two Silver Medal winners were Nguyen Huu Thanh, a 12th grader from Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong City, and Bui Hoang Dai Duong, a 12th grader from Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted, Hue City. The Bronze Medal went to Le Hoang Kieu Anh, a 12th grader from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted.
Nguyen Luong Thai Duy is a Biology 11th grade student, and is also the only 11th grade student in the IBO 2025 delegation. He has very impressive academic achievements: Third Prize in the District-level Biology Competition 2021-2022 - Second Prize in the City-level Biology Competition 2021-2022 - First Prize in the District-level Biology Competition 2022-2023 - First Prize in the City-level Biology Competition 2022-2023. In grade 10, he won Second Prize in the City-level Biology Competition 2023-2024. In grade 11, Nguyen Luong Thai Duy continued to achieve many outstanding results when he won First Prize in the City-level Biology Competition 2024-2025. First Prize in the National Biology Competition 2024-2025. Silver Medal in Asia at the 2025 USA Biology Olympiad and just won the Gold Medal at the 2025 International Biology Olympiad (top 7).
Le Hoang Kieu Anh is a 12th grade student majoring in Biology. She has achieved the following achievements: Second Prize in the Nam Tu Liem District Excellent Student Competition in Biology for the 2021-2022 school year - Second Prize in the Hanoi City Excellent Student Competition in Biology for the 2021-2022 school year. In the 11th grade, she won Second Prize in the Hanoi City High School Excellent Student Competition in Biology for the 2023-2024 school year. Second Prize in the National Excellent Student Competition in Biology for the 2023-2024 school year.
In grade 12, Le Hoang Kieu Anh won First Prize in the National Biology Olympiad for the 2024-2025 school year. - Gold medal in the 2024 Natural Science Olympiad for Biology. Gold medal in the 2023 INNOVERSE Innovation & Invention scientific research competition. - Bronze medal in the 2024 USA Biology Olympiad; Gold medal in the 2025 USA Biology Olympiad, and has just won a Bronze medal in the 2025 International Biology Olympiad.
IBO 2025 has a theoretical exam with 2 papers of 180 minutes each and a practical exam with 4 labs, each lasting 90 minutes. The four labs include: Biomedical Sciences; Molecular and Cell Biology; Ecology and Systematics; Microbiology. The Biology Olympiad is considered the leading comprehensive international exam in Biology at high school level worldwide.
