Facing a Manchester United team that was superior in reputation and strength, the ASEAN All-Stars team, despite lacking many big stars and being hastily assembled, still excelled in winning the final match.
A total of 27 ASEAN All-Stars were fielded by coach Kim Sang-sik in the match against Manchester United, and Hai Long was among the players who received the highest ratings from ESPN in the match.
Despite only playing the entire first half, Nguyen Hai Long was rated 7.5 points (out of 10) by ESPN with the comment: "The star of Hanoi FC was a constant threat to Manchester United's defense in the first half. His speed and dribbling technique made the opposing defense falter. Although he could not score or assist, Hai Long's performance was still impressive."
Three other Vietnamese players who played in this match, including midfielder Nguyen Hoang Duc, Nguyen Van Vi and central defender Do Duy Manh, also had good performances. Hoang Duc was given a score of 6.5 with the assessment: "One of the most technical midfielders in the region, helping the ASEAN All-Stars team control the midfield and maintain their attacking ability. He made many passes through the lines, although not with the highest accuracy."
Duy Manh was also given a score of 6.5 with the assessment: "The experience of Duy Manh, a two-time ASEAN Championship champion, helped the ASEAN All-Stars defense stand firm against Manchester United's late-game pressure". Van Vi was given a score of 6.5, when he performed well in the left-back position, always ready to participate in defense and support the attack.
