Hai Phong implements nearly 10,000 billion VND project to respond to climate change

On the morning of November 13, information from the People's Committee of Hai Phong City stated that the total investment to implement the above project is more than 9,800 billion VND, of which loan capital is more than 6,550 billion VND; domestic counterpart capital is more than 3,306 billion VND (mainly site clearance).

Hai Phong City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau inspected the project's works.

The project consists of four components, including synchronous development of Thuy Nguyen urban infrastructure to adapt to climate change; upgrading the Re River environment; reducing central urban flooding; and developing systems and capacity to improve urban adaptation to climate change.

According to the report of the Hai Phong Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board, component 3 of the project includes the construction of: 1 regulating culvert at Tam Bac bridge with Thuong Ly river and 1 regulating culvert at Thuy Doi estuary (Tam Bac river mouth flows into Cam river); construction of a rainwater pumping station with a capacity of ^12m3 /s to pump rainwater from Tam Bac river to Cam river. The project is expected to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Hai Phong City Party Secretary Le Tien Chau and city leaders inspected the progress of some items of the project.

Faced with the complicated urban flooding situation, especially during the rainy and stormy season in Hai Phong, Secretary of the City Party Committee Le Tien Chau requested the local project management board to coordinate with relevant units to develop the progress of the entire project; in the immediate future, the construction of the regulating culvert and pumping station on the Tam Bac River will be separated to advise the city government, departments and branches to implement the investment using the city budget. The implementation of investment and construction procedures will be carried out to put the project into operation in June 2026.

Regarding urban beautification projects in the central area of Hai Phong, Mr. Le Tien Chau requested relevant units to implement them with the highest determination, speed up progress, and commit to completing the project on schedule.
