This is not the first time this phenomenon has appeared in Southeast Asian football.
Previously, Southeast Asian fans were fascinated by names like Beckham Putra from Indonesia or the duo Luis Figo Pereira Ribeiro and Luis Figo Pinto from Timor Leste, inspired by the two legends David Beckham and Luis Figo.

The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship is taking place in Indonesia, and the list of players with "unique" and interesting names continues to grow. In addition to the two names Danish Hakimi (Malaysia) and Alfharezzi Buffon (Indonesia), the most notable is Harry Nunez (20 years old) of the Philippines. The 20-year-old striker had an impressive debut with his teammates, contributing to the surprising 2-0 victory over Malaysia in the opening match of Group A.
The Philippines team also has Joshua Merino (whose name reminds of midfielder Mikel Merino) and goalkeeper Nicholas Guimaraes (similar to Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes).
Not only that, Timor Leste also contributed to creating a special spice for the tournament with Vabio Canavaro (legendary center back Fabio Cannavaro), brothers Nicholas and Jackson Fowler (striker Robbie Fowler), Jorge Casemiro (Casemiro of Man United), or Sandro Rivaldo (former Brazilian player, Rivaldo).
According to Indonesian media site FaktaBola, this phenomenon reflects the deep love of football among parents in Southeast Asia. They entrust their dreams of a brilliant career to their children's names, along with the hope that their children will shine on the field in the future.
These unique names are contributing to creating an attractive and colorful atmosphere for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
