On May 22, South Korea's Hyundai and Kia Group announced that they have partnered with Incheon International Airport to deploy a field test of an automatic charging robot (ACR) using artificial intelligence (AI) for electric vehicles.
According to the memorandum of understanding, the parties will conduct a pilot program for the ACR system right at the airport, aiming to create a foundation for expanding the application of robotic electric vehicle charging technology in the aviation environment.
Incheon Airport currently has the largest eco-vehicle infrastructure in Korea, with plans to install 1,110 electric vehicle chargers by 2026, making it an ideal location to test cutting-edge technologies.
Hyundai and Kia's Robotics Lab will be responsible for providing both hardware and software for the pilot program, and will work with the airport to develop optimized service scenarios.
In the first phase, charging robots will be deployed on the airport's internal electric vehicle fleet, along with user feedback surveys to assess the system's operational efficiency and user-friendliness.
Mr. Yang Hee Won, Director of Hyundai Research and Development, said that this is an important milestone to verify the practical value of future mobile technologies. According to him, customized automatic charging solutions are expected to bring more convenient and enhanced travel experiences to users./.
