On the evening of June 27, Anker Vietnam announced a “voluntary” recall of some models of backup batteries currently sold in Vietnam. According to the company, this is a measure to enhance risk prevention during the production process.

The four products in this category include model A1257 (10,000 mAh battery capacity, 22.5 W charging capacity), A1647 (20,000 mAh, 22.5 W integrated USB-C cable), Anker Zolo A1681 (20,000 mAh, 30 W, integrated USB-C and Lightning cable) and Anker Zolo A1689 (20,000 mAh, 30 W, integrated USB-C and Lightning cable).

Suspicious users can check the device code located on the bottom or side of the power bank. If the above models match, customers can fill out the online recall form from the company to receive and process. The company's solution is to exchange a new product with equivalent technology, no risk of error, or a voucher of equal value for online purchase.

Anker was the first company to speak up and recall products in Vietnam, in a scandal that shook the global power bank industry. Previously, the company had declared responsibility for more than one million products in the US and 700,000 units sold in China.

According to Tri Thuc - Znews , the model that caused the explosion is not officially sold in Vietnam. However, the company investigated internally and handled the risk by recalling models that use the same battery cells from the supplier. Therefore, the above 4 products were recalled, applied globally, and applied in the domestic market.

On the other hand, this company also has a solution for customers who buy products in the form of hand-carried goods, not official.

The explosion scandal originated from supplier Amprius. Chinese regulators have revoked the 3C certification of many products using the company's battery cells, including well-known brands such as Romoss, Anker, Ugreen and Baseus.

Earlier in the international recall announcement, Anker said the defect did not arise during the manufacturing process. It came from “unauthorized alteration of the diaphragm material” by the supplier.

The “diaphragm” here is like the safety valve of the Lithium-ion battery, blocking contact between the positive and negative poles, avoiding short circuits. Because of this problem, the power bank is at risk of catching fire under harsh conditions of use such as quickly charging the product in a thick quilt.

Currently, besides Anker, no company has spoken out about products using Amprius cells, sold in Vietnam. Tri Thuc - Znews will continue to monitor the incident and update information to readers soon.
