AS said Betis agreed to sell key midfielder Johnny Cardoso to Atletico Madrid for 30 million euros in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old midfielder scored 4 goals and had 1 assist in 46 games for Betis last season, playing an important role in helping the team reach the Conference League final.
In addition to Cardoso, Betis also parted ways with Jesus Rodriguez, with the 19-year-old set to join Como next season for around €22.5 million. Manuel Pellegrini's side have just raised €52.5 million from player sales, giving them more funds to pursue Antony.
Antony is said to be willing to take a 30% pay cut to return to play for Betis. However, MU demands 50 million euros for the Brazilian striker to leave. This is the biggest problem that has kept both sides at a standstill.
Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo admitted that signing Antony was complicated and would take time. "Given the form Antony has shown at Real Betis, it will not be easy to complete this negotiation. We will look for other options that do not harm the stability of the club," he said.
However, Betis is confident of completing the Antony deal this month, or at the latest in early July. The La Liga club has an option to buy a percentage of Antony's ownership, similar to what Marseille did to sign Mason Greenwood from Manchester United last summer. Betis wants to finalize their squad soon to prepare for the 2025/26 season.
