When he first became the village chief, Mr. Y Ghan noticed that the villagers intended to sell their family's precious gong sets to antique collectors. This could cause the traditional cultural values of the village to gradually fade away, so he was determined to protect and preserve these gong sets.
Thinking is doing, Mr. Y Ghan diligently went to each household, encouraging villagers not to sell their precious gong sets, and at the same time, to make efforts to preserve the traditional rituals of the village.
He skillfully explained to the villagers that the gong is a symbol of prosperity and happiness. If the family preserves the gong, they will be protected by the gong gods... Thanks to his persuasion, the villagers of Drai village are keeping intact 20 sets of Knah gongs.
In 2010, Mr. Y Ghan advised the local Party Committee and government to establish a gong team of Drai village with 20 members. Since then, the gong team of Drai village has become an indispensable part of the village's rituals and festivals. The team also participates in local cultural and artistic activities as well as provincial festivals, winning many awards.
In addition, to "fuel" the younger generation in preserving this tradition, every year, with the help of the local cultural sector, Mr. Y Ghan and the Drai Village Self-Management Board open gong classes for young people.
He said he always wanted people to have an increasingly prosperous life, and at the same time not to let the good values of the nation fade away.
"If we do not preserve our national identity and pass it on to our children, our children will no longer know their roots," said Mr. Y Ghan.
Not only fulfilling his responsibilities as a village chief, but also as a prestigious person, Mr. Y Ghan went to each house in the village, skillfully propagating to the people the Party's policies and guidelines and the State's policies and laws.
Thanks to Mr. Y Ghan's care, over the years, no one in Drai village has been drawn into illegal religious activities, and at the same time, solidarity and harmony have been maintained in the community.
Bright example in economic development

In 2013, Mr. Y Ghan decided to intercrop fruit trees such as durian and pepper in his family's 4 hectares of coffee. Over the years, thanks to the combination and application of science and technology in crop care, his family has had a good harvest every year, earning over 1 billion VND/year.
After succeeding with this model, Mr. Y Ghan actively encouraged people in the village to change backward farming practices, transform crop structures, and apply scientific and technical advances to increase productivity and income.
Up to now, most households in the village have effectively changed their crop structure, intercropping fruit trees. Thanks to that, from an area with a high poverty rate, Drai village now has only 8 poor households. Meanwhile, the number of well-off and rich households is constantly increasing.
Mr. Ksor Y Thong - leader of the Party Committee of Dlie Yang commune - said that Mr. Y Ghan is an energetic and enthusiastic person in all work, and is also the one who connects people, contributing to making Drai village more and more united and developed.
