The workshop was held in Dak Phoi commune ( Dak Lak ). At the workshop, technical staff and businesses introduced the process of producing sweet potato seeds using tissue culture method, creating a source of disease-free, uniform seeds that are well adapted to the soil conditions of Lak district.

The model was deployed on an area of 1.5 sao with the participation of a local household. Many households evaluated the sweet potato variety in the model as healthy, uniform growth, high survival rate and the prospect of yielding superior to traditional varieties.

Representatives of the Lak Regional Agricultural Extension Station assessed that the model not only helps proactively source quality seeds but also opens up opportunities for replication in the area, contributing to increasing economic efficiency, moving towards more modern and sustainable production methods.

Mr. Dinh Van Dang, Director of the Dak Lak Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, said: “Currently, the demand for sweet potato cultivation in the locality is very large. Therefore, the Center has proactively consulted the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, coordinated with research institutes and enterprises to deploy a model of tissue culture sweet potato production. This is a method that brings high productivity and good disease resistance. In the near future, we will open training programs to support people to have more knowledge about tissue culture sweet potato varieties to apply in the next crops.”

At the workshop, delegates visited the model fields, listened to reports on the implementation process as well as the outstanding advantages of tissue culture seedlings. Tcbiotech Global Joint Stock Company also introduced the tissue culture technology being applied to create disease-free, uniform seedlings that retain the characteristics of the mother plant.

Mr. Le Bao Trung, Head of Sales Department - Tcbiotech Global Joint Stock Company shared: “The tissue culture method brings many advantages. Tissue cultured sweet potato varieties have high uniformity, good disease resistance, and especially maintain the full characteristics of the original variety. This helps farmers feel secure in expanding the area while still maintaining product quality.”

For many years, Dak Lak farmers have faced difficulties due to the uneven quality of sweet potato seeds, susceptibility to pests and diseases, and unstable productivity. Approaching tissue culture seeds is considered a new direction to help farmers be more proactive in production.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Vinh, a farmer who is experimenting with tissue-cultured sweet potato varieties, shared: “This sweet potato variety is very suitable for the local soil. The plant grows strongly, is resistant to pests and diseases, and produces beautiful, high-quality tubers. I will continue to expand the area of tissue-cultured sweet potato varieties in the coming crops.”

Leaders of the Dak Lak Provincial Agricultural Extension Center assessed the model as bringing positive signals and suggested maintaining coordination with businesses to continue to replicate it. The Lak Regional Agricultural Extension Station will provide technical support, connect consumers and promote the formation of groups of households to produce high-quality seeds.

The field workshop in Dak Phoi commune not only evaluated the effectiveness of the model but also created a forum for farmers to access new technology, exchange experiences and orient sustainable production. The model is expected to contribute to increasing people's income and promoting high-tech agriculture in Dak Lak.
