On the evening of December 8, Da Nang City hosted a reception for a US Navy ship to visit the city for 4 days (from December 8 to 11).
The US Navy fleet includes the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and the cruiser USS Robert Smalls with more than 2,000 officers and sailors, led by Rear Admiral Thomas Shultz - Commander of Expeditionary Strike Group 7.

Attending the welcoming ceremony at Tien Sa port were representatives of the leaders of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Da Nang City, the Naval Region 3 Command, the City Military Command, the City Border Guard Command, the Border Guard Command of Da Nang Port, the Foreign Affairs Department - Military Region 5 Command, representatives of the Foreign Affairs Department ( Ministry of National Defense ), the Navy and relevant functional agencies.

2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations. The visit of the US Navy ship to Da Nang City will contribute to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership established in 2023.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs of Da Nang, with its potential in tourism, culture, economy and hospitality, the city is always ready to be a bridge for defense - security cooperation activities, cultural - sports exchanges and experience sharing between the two navies.

During the visit, the ship's commanding officers will pay courtesy calls to the leaders of the Da Nang People's Committee, Military Region 5, and Naval Region 3; exchange expertise and participate in sports activities with naval officers and staff; interact with children at the Hope Village and students at the University of Foreign Languages - Da Nang University; and visit local culture and tourism sites.
USS Tripoli is a new generation America-class amphibious assault ship of the US Navy. The ship is 257.3m long, 32.3m wide, has a displacement of nearly 45,000 tons, and a maximum speed of 25 nautical miles/hour.
The ship is capable of carrying 10-20 F-35B Lightning II stealth fighters, MV-22 Osprey helicopters and many modern weapons such as Rolling Airframe missile launchers, Evolved Sea Sparrow missile launchers, cannons and many machine guns...


The USS Robert Smalls is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser. The ship was commissioned in 1989, originally named USS Chancellorsville. In March 2023, the ship was renamed Robert Smalls. The ship is equipped with cruise missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, automatic guns, anti-submarine weapons and 2 helicopters...
Previously in 2023, the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and two escort cruisers, the USS Antietam (CG 54) and the USS Robert Smalls (CG 62), also docked at Tien Sa port to visit Da Nang city.
