On the morning of August 31, thousands of people and tourists flocked to both banks of the Han River (Da Nang City) to watch the 2025 Da Nang City Traditional Boat Race to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2.

Accordingly, the 2025 Da Nang City Traditional Boat Racing Tournament is organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City in coordination with the Vietnam Television Center for the Central - Central Highlands region (VTV8) and Da Nang Newspaper and Radio and Television (DNRT).

This tournament is the largest ever, gathering 26 racing teams with 520 athletes from many communes and wards in the new Da Nang city.

Of which, 20 men's boat teams with 400 athletes compete through 5 laps, equivalent to 7.5km.

The women's rowing event consists of 6 teams with 120 athletes competing over 3 laps, equivalent to 4.5km.

Each racing boat consists of 17 athletes, using traditional boats to compete on the Han River (between the Han River Bridge and the Dragon Bridge).

According to records, from 7am, the tournament atmosphere became exciting when thousands of people and tourists poured onto both banks of the Han River to watch the boat race.

When the starting signal was given, the boat teams used all their strength and rowed towards the finish line under the enthusiastic cheers of the locals. Many locals even used their own boats to row near the racing area to cheer, creating a lively atmosphere that echoed throughout the Han River.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Thi - Vice Chairwoman of Da Nang City People's Committee - said this is not only a sports activity but also a festival for the people of the city on the Han River.

"The race is one of the events organized by the city on the Han River to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

The event is not only a sports playground but also a festival for the city's people, a place to review the heroic revolutionary tradition, honor the contributions of previous generations, and at the same time affirm the new vitality and new look of Da Nang - a civilized, modern, dynamic city entering a new stage of development," Ms. Thi shared.

At the end of the tournament, Hoa Cuong ward team excellently won first prize in the women's boat racing event, Cam Chanh - Hoa Xuan team won first prize in the men's boat racing event.
