According to Engadget , despite still being busy developing a number of games, CD Projekt Red still doesn't seem to have enough work for its entire staff.

CD Projekt Red has announced that it will cut around 100 employees, or around 9% of its workforce. The news follows a previous round of layoffs in May, when 29 employees at CD Projekt Red's The Molasses Flood studio lost their jobs. Then in June, 30 employees working on the Witcher card game were also laid off.

"To meet our ambitious goals of creating the best role-playing games, we want not only the best people, but also the right development teams," said CD Projekt Red CEO Adam Kiciński. "It's not easy to say this, but the company is currently overstaffed. Although we have talented employees who always do their jobs well, it's a shame that we won't have the opportunity for them next year."

The company is gradually notifying all affected employees, but the layoffs will be rolled out through early 2024.

CD Projekt Red has struggled over the past few years, most notably with the troubled launch of Cyberpunk 2077. In late 2020, Sony Interactive Entertainment pulled the game from the PlayStation Store after just a week of release, citing numerous glitches. CD Projekt Red also had to issue refunds to customers, and the company's stock dropped more than 20%, or $1.8 billion.

The company is next up with the sequel Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and hopefully the new game will have a smoother launch when it launches on September 26.
