Vietnam’s aviation industry is preparing for a major technological leap forward, as passengers will soon experience smart security screening without having to take off their shoes or remove electronic devices or liquids from their luggage. This is part of a comprehensive digitalization plan to bring a seamless and convenient flying experience.
Moving towards security screening and paperless procedures
Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is gradually realizing the goal of making Vietnam a pioneer in the region in digital aviation processes, notably the "paperless airport" initiative through the national electronic identification application VNeID.

Currently, major airports such as Tan Son Nhat have piloted automated biometric check-in lines in parallel with manual lines. However, ACV's goal is to synchronize the entire system, helping passengers have a quick, safe and completely paperless flight.

The most important highlight that will be deployed soon is modern security screening technology. Mr. Pham Quang Hieu, Deputy Head of the Environmental Technology Department (ACV), said: "From the end of this year, ACV will put into operation high-tech security screening machines that allow passengers to keep their luggage, shoes, liquids and electronic devices intact during inspection."
When combined with facial biometric authentication, passengers will have a seamless experience from check-in, security check to boarding. This will not only significantly shorten waiting times and reduce congestion, but also improve accuracy and security, virtually eliminating the risk of identity fraud.
New technologies are expected to be deployed synchronously at major airports, especially Long Thanh International Airport in the future, with the orientation of becoming a green, smart airport, applying automation and advanced management.
Airlines digitize entire flight itinerary
Along with ACV's innovations on the ground, airlines are also strongly transforming digitally. Mr. Dinh Van Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines , shared that the airline has identified in-depth investment in science - technology and digital transformation as a strategic direction to achieve the goal of becoming a 5-star airline.

According to Mr. Tuan, digital transformation not only helps optimize operations and reduce costs but also improves customer service quality. Vietnam Airlines has deployed internet services on wide-body Airbus A350 aircraft and is working with VNPT to expand it across the entire fleet.
In terms of service, the airline has digitized the entire journey, from ticket purchase, online check-in to post-flight services. The new mobile application and website are integrated with artificial intelligence (AI), helping passengers easily look up information and receive automatic support. In operations, the airline also applies big data technology and AI to forecast and warn of risks early, forming a proactive safety culture.
However, ACV representative also acknowledged that the digital transformation process still faces many challenges, especially in securing personal data, requiring synchronous technology infrastructure, as well as coordination between ministries and sectors and changing user habits.
