Learn with a spirit of independence.

For Ho Cao Tan (village 1, Tra Doc commune, Bac Tra My district), learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh means striving to learn to read and write, and actively participating in school and local movements. Thanks to his diligent efforts, Tan was honored to be admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam just before the 2024 high school graduation exam and university/college entrance exam.

Ho Cao Tan came from a large, impoverished family in a village on the banks of the Tranh River, at the foot of Yen Ngua Mountain. From a young age, Tan showed a strong determination to overcome adversity.

From a young age, Tấn did small tasks. While attending primary and secondary school in his village and then the commune, after class, Tấn took advantage of his free time to help his parents with household chores such as cooking, washing clothes, working in the fields planting trees, and tending livestock. It was from these experiences that Tấn acquired adaptability, learned to take care of himself, and developed a spirit of living for others.

At the high school level, Tan qualified to attend the Nuoc Oa Ethnic Minority Boarding School (Bac Tra My) and dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his studies and participation in school activities.

Throughout his three years of high school, Tan consistently achieved the title of outstanding student. This year, Tan achieved first place in his 12th grade class and also won third prize in History at the provincial-level excellent student competition.

According to Ho Thi Hien, Vice Principal of Nuoc Oa Ethnic Boarding Secondary and High School, Tan, as the Deputy Secretary of the school's Youth Union and Secretary of the 12th grade Youth Union branch, has always been a key figure in extracurricular activities. He independently researches and understands the cultural identity of ethnic groups in the Tra My region such as the Co, Xo Dang, and Mo Nong...

“After regular classes, Tan often spends time explaining difficult exercises to classmates who don't understand them so they can grasp the concepts better. At the same time, he is always enthusiastic in helping his friends practice singing folk songs, playing drums and gongs, and performing gong dances… in order to preserve and promote cultural identity in the school,” said Ms. Hien.

A shining example in school

According to Nguyen Thi Thuy An (a Co ethnic minority from Tra Nu commune, Tấn's classmate in class 12/2), during their three years of high school, Tấn's dynamism and enthusiasm helped An and many other students become more aware, strive harder, and focus more on their studies.

"Tan always gets along well with everyone, regardless of their ethnic background; he shares and takes on difficult tasks in studies and daily life… This helps improve his friends' skills and knowledge while creating a close-knit and friendly environment," Thuy An revealed.

Tan thought simply: "My grandparents and parents gave me the name Ho Chi Minh as my surname to remind me to be grateful to the Party and to Uncle Ho for helping the country achieve independence and freedom, and to strive to study and follow his example. Since I was well cared for by the Party, the State, and my teachers while studying at the boarding school, it's only natural that I focus on studying and following Uncle Ho's example to achieve the best possible results."

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, the school's principal and Party Secretary, Tan is outstanding and excels in all aspects of his studies and life. He is currently reviewing for the 2024 high school graduation exam and university/college entrance exam, which will take place from June 26-29, and has applied to study security-related subjects. In mid-June, upon turning 18 and just before the exam, Tan was honored to be admitted into the Communist Party of Vietnam.

“This is a well-deserved reward recognizing your pioneering spirit, exemplary dedication, and tireless efforts in self-improvement. Teachers, friends, and colleagues believe that with this special asset – the pride of being a member of the Party – Tấn will have more motivation to pursue his dreams at this important stage of his life in the upcoming exam,” said Teacher Ảnh.
