Starting with the play Forever 17 depicting the image of the young hero Ly Tu Trong, over the past 45 years, the Youth Theater has been one of the leading and only national theater units in Vietnam performing for the youth, young adults and children through art programs and special plays.
Sharing with the press, Meritorious Artist Nguyen Sy Tien, Director of the Youth Theater, said that the birth of the Youth Theater 45 years ago stemmed from practical demands and the needs and tastes of young audiences who wanted to enjoy the values of truth, goodness and beauty through art. With a variety of performance types such as music, dance, drama, physical drama, musicals, etc., the theater has constantly innovated and renewed itself, becoming an effective bridge in bringing art closer to contemporary life and is gradually moving towards the goal of reaching the regional level.
Many generations of talented artists and the programs and stage works of the Youth Theater have conquered domestic and foreign audiences with their aesthetic value and lasting vitality. We can mention the famous political plays of the past that continue to be successful until now with new versions that continue to attract many viewers by famous domestic playwrights such as: Live forever at 17, Last summer, My child, Last lie, Peak of dreams... along with many programs and plays for children with many educational meanings.
Besides, the theater also continuously stages many world classic stage works: The Bourgeois Gentleman, The Eldest Son, The Dog's Heart, Othello, The Good Man of Sichuan, Edopp's Fables - The Fox and the Grapes, Thunderstorm, Romeo and Juliet..., showing the talent of the theater's artists, actors, and directors.
Notably, with the group of socialized works, in 1998, the Youth Theater launched the comedy series Doi Cuoi and immediately became a phenomenon of the Vietnamese stage at that time. By 2000, Doi Cuoi was voted as one of the typical cultural events of the year and was the basis for staging comedy shows later.
During the journey of creation and dedication, in addition to the performances at the Youth Theater ( Hanoi ), the theater artists have also had thousands of tours throughout the provinces, cities, remote areas in the country and participated in many major international competitions and festivals. With the process of integration and expansion of cooperation, the theater is now an important partner of many international and national cultural and artistic organizations, serving as a bridge to introduce the quintessence of world theater to domestic audiences, while bringing Vietnamese theater and dance art to friends around the world.
To celebrate its 45th anniversary, the Youth Theatre is holding a four-day celebration (April 7-10) at the Hanoi Opera House. The highlight will be the official celebration on the morning of April 10, with meetings and exchanges between generations of theatre artists, a large audience, and collaborators and friends who have contributed to the building and development of the theatre.
