Over the past 15 years, 100,000 volunteers in the UK have taken part in the UK Biobank project. This is the world's largest full-body imaging project with the aim of understanding the unsolved mysteries inside the human body. Photo: ukbiobank.ac.uk. As part of the project, volunteers were imaged with their brains, hearts and other vital organs as well as their bones and joints. Photo: ukbiobank.ac.uk.
Experts hope that this project will provide a large amount of information to help scientists and doctors who are researching diseases such as dementia, cardiovascular disease, cancer, arthritis, depression, vision disorders... By analyzing the DNA from the collected data, experts hope to identify 850,000 biomarkers associated with disease. Professor Sir Rory Collins, principal investigator and CEO of UK Biobank, said of the world’s largest whole-body imaging project: “The scale of this imaging project is unprecedented – 10 times larger than any previous project – enabling scientists to see patterns of disease that would otherwise be invisible.” Photo: UK Biobank / Dave Guttridge.
The results from the UK Biobank project promise to advance modern medicine and help experts discover new ways to prevent, treat and cure diseases. Photo: Pixabay. Readers are invited to watch the video: Behind the success of scientists. Source: VTV24.
