To convince Carlo Ancelotti to leave the spotlight of Europe to lead the Brazilian national team, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) agreed to pay a record salary of up to 770,000 euros per month, or 10 million euros per year. This income is double what his three predecessors received, including Dorival Junior, Fernando Diniz and Tite, the legendary coach of the Brazilian football world.
Not only higher than his predecessors, Ancelotti's income also far exceeds that of his colleagues in the world. In Europe, Thomas Tuchel of the England national team is currently the highest paid person, receiving only nearly 6 million euros/year. In addition, Julian Nagelsmann (Germany national team) receives a salary of 4.8 million euros, Roberto Martinez (Portugal national team) 4 million euros and Didier Deschamps, who has led the French national team for the past 13 years and won the world championship in 2018, only receives a salary of 3.8 million euros.
In South America, the highest salary is Marcelo Bielsa (Uruguay National Team) at 4 million euros. Following "El Loco" is Ricardo Gareca (Chile National Team) at 3.2 million euros and Fernando Batista (Venezuela National Team) at 2.7 million euros. The current world champion coach Lionel Scaloni (Argentina National Team) only earns about 2.3 million euros per year.
According to the agreement signed with the CBF, Ancelotti will be awarded an additional 5 million euros if he helps Brazil win the 2026 World Cup. This generous treatment is partly because CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues admires the Italian coach, describing him as the dream coach of the Selecao.
The CBF has approached Ancelotti twice in the past, in 2022 and 2023. They returned earlier this year, and had a meeting at Don Carlo's home in mid-April. Ancelotti eventually agreed an initial one-year deal until the end of the 2026 World Cup. He was also convinced to take over the Brazil national team in June to prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, instead of waiting until the fall.
