As reported by Thanh Nien Newspaper, shooting expert Park Chung-gun has refused to renew his contract with the Department of Sports and Physical Training. Although the two sides planned to negotiate a contract on September 24, after many days of consideration, the Korean expert decided to part ways with the Vietnamese shooting team.
After Park Chung-gun leaves, the Department of Sports and Physical Training will urgently find new experts for the shooting team. Sharing with Thanh Nien Newspaper, Director Dang Ha Viet affirmed that the Department of Sports and Physical Training is reviewing experts in all teams to prepare personnel for important goals such as the 33rd SEA Games (2025), the 20th ASIAD (2026) and the Los Angeles Olympics (2028).
Mr. Park Chung-gun said goodbye to the Vietnamese shooting team, decided not to renew the contract.
With expert Park no longer present, the Department of Sports and Physical Training will use domestic coaches for now, and may move on to finding experts, then send a proposal to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to sign a selection contract. The sports industry is calculating whether the new expert will be inclined towards pistols or rifles, how much salary he will receive... to screen suitable faces.
Temporarily, before looking for a new expert, the veteran shooter duo including Olympic champion Hoang Xuan Vinh and SEA Games champion Tran Quoc Cuong will take on the role of co-coach of the Vietnamese shooting team, in charge of the air pistol event. Veteran shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh was the coach of the shooting team at the 19th ASIAD. However, after that at the Paris Olympics, Hoang Xuan Vinh was no longer the head coach, and Mr. Park Chung-gun took over.
In the proposal to sign a contract with expert Park Chung-gun, the Department of Sports and Physical Training assigned the Korean expert the following goals: 3 gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games, 2 gold medals at the 20th ASIAD, 2 spots and 1 gold medal at the 2028 Olympics. Mr. Park said that the above goals were not reasonable. However, after parting ways with expert Park Chung-gun, it is unclear whether the Department of Sports and Physical Training will adjust the goals for the shooting team or not.
