The South is identified as one of the three potential areas for forming a renewable energy industrial ecosystem. In fact, the Plan has identified the development of renewable energy sources and the production of new energy for export to Singapore, Malaysia and other partners in the region; establishing the position of wind power sources in the South, especially in the coastal provinces of the Mekong Delta.
Accordingly, by 2035, the scale of renewable energy export capacity to Singapore, Malaysia and other partners in the region is expected to reach about 5,000-10,000 MW and maintain a scale of 10,000 MW until 2050, possibly higher depending on the needs of the importer, on the basis of high economic efficiency, ensuring domestic energy security and national defense security.
Tan Thuan wind power field (Tan Thuan commune, Dam Doi district) is the first commercial operation project of the province, laying the foundation for Ca Mau to form a renewable energy industrial ecosystem, wind power center and electricity export in the future.
The coastal provinces of the Mekong Delta have great potential for nearshore and offshore wind power such as Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu ... have effectively promoted their advantages, formed many wind power "fields", connected to the national grid and ready for the wind power export strategy.
In Ca Mau alone, the locality is identified as the region's wind power center, a pillar for the origin of electricity exports to Singapore and Malaysia. Up to now, there are 14 projects in the province that have been approved for investment, with a total capacity of 800 MW. Of these, 6 projects have been put into commercial operation with a total capacity of 225 MW; 3 projects with a total capacity of 276 MW are under construction; 5 projects with a total capacity of 299 MW have not been constructed and are carrying out investment and construction procedures. In addition, there are 3 projects with a total capacity of 260 MW that have been approved for planning, have had interested investors, and are proposing investment policies.
Wind power fields in Ca Mau have been and will be formed covering the coastal areas from East to West, not only creating a new image of the renewable energy industry, but also contributing to the development of green tourism and green economy. The potential and advantages of geographical location are being effectively exploited by the province, towards sustainable development. Efforts in the rapid, effective and sustainable development of wind power sources are an important part of Vietnam's commitment in the fight against climate change, bringing the net emission limit to zero by 2050 (Net Zero), contributing to the development of the global green economy for a sustainable green life.
