The US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has been deployed in the South China Sea, after leaving the Middle East in late November, the Zona-militar defense news site reported.
Before arriving in the South China Sea, USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) stopped in Malaysia, marking its first visit to the country since 2013.
On November 27, the aircraft carrier joined its escorts in the Singapore Strait, including the destroyers USS Spruance (DDG-111) and USS Michael Murphy (DDG-112), which were already in Phuket, Thailand, and USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG-121) in Singapore.
Currently, with the arrival of CVN-72, the US Navy will have three aircraft carriers in the Pacific : the USS George Washington (CVN-73) strike group, stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, and the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), deployed near the island of Hawaii.
Meanwhile, a group of ships from the Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet is heading to the South China Sea after a visit to Thailand's Sattahip port, including the submarine RFS Ufa (B-588).
