The Association was established under Decision No. 579/QD-BNV dated June 9, 2025 of the Minister of Home Affairs, as a socio-professional organization gathering people who love, create, research and preserve the culture of Ao Dai domestically and internationally.
Developed from the effective operation of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club, the Association will be a place to connect artisans, designers, scholars, educators and the Vietnamese community at home and abroad to join hands to bring the Ao Dai to a deeper presence in contemporary cultural life.
On the afternoon of August 8, 2025, the 1st Congress of the Vietnam Ao Dai Culture Association - term 2025-2030 will take place at the Center for Women and Development (No. 20 Thuy Khue Street, Hanoi ).
The Congress will approve the Charter, elect the Executive Committee and determine the direction of activities in the coming period.
On August 9, 2025, the Vietnam Ao Dai Culture Association will officially launch to the public at the Opera House (No. 1 Trang Tien Street, Hanoi), marking a new step forward in the effort to preserve, promote and spread the value of the Ao Dai - a unique cultural symbol of the Vietnamese people.
Speaking before the Congress, Dr. Dang Thi Bich Lien, former Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Honorary President of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club, emphasized: “Ao dai is not only a traditional costume but also the crystallization of the soul, virtue and cultural character of the Vietnamese people. That soft but powerful ao dai has accompanied Vietnamese women through all periods – from the history of building and defending the country to today's integration journey.”
Sharing about the upcoming event, Ms. Khuc Thi Dau, Head of the Association's Organizing Committee, also said: "We wish to create a common cultural space for those who love Ao Dai, where all ideas can meet to continue the journey of spreading Ao Dai from daily life to the space of artistic creation, from within the country to the Vietnamese community in five continents."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund, Head of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club, hopes that heritage lovers will continue to accompany each other on the path of honoring the value of national cultural heritage, including Vietnamese Ao Dai.
In less than 3 years of operation, the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club has organized a series of meaningful programs, typically "Nep ao thanh xuan", sponsoring white ao dai for nearly 2,000 12th grade students of 5 high schools in disadvantaged areas.
The program aims to motivate female teachers and students to strive and achieve many achievements in teaching and learning.
At the same time, contribute to promoting the value and spreading the beauty of the Ao Dai - a symbol of Vietnamese culture in contemporary life; build a cultural space of Ao Dai, and complete the dossier to submit to UNESCO to honor the costume with special meaning in the hearts and souls of Vietnamese people.
The establishment of the Association in the current context is considered suitable to the trend of increasing socialization in the field of heritage conservation and promotion.
The Association not only hopes to play a role in gathering experts and the heritage-loving community, but also aims to build a dossier to propose UNESCO to recognize Ao Dai as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
During the launching ceremony on August 9 at the Opera House, the Association will introduce a special art program combining ao dai performance, honoring the elegant, simple and culturally meaningful beauty of traditional national costumes.
It is expected that delegates will announce the action plan for the 2025–2030 period with many initiatives to develop the Ao Dai cultural space associated with education, arts and cultural industry.
From the image of the Ao Dai in books, on stage, at festivals to the rhythm of urban life, schools, offices… The Vietnam Ao Dai Culture Association was born with the mission of making the Ao Dai a vibrant and proud part of contemporary Vietnamese identity, while continuing to spread the image of Vietnamese women - heroic, indomitable, loyal, and responsible - to international friends.
