Implementing the model "Farmers teach farmers", the Farmers' Association at all levels has reviewed, based on the capacity of members and the characteristics of agricultural production in each region, selected suitable models to mobilize farmers to help each other develop. Mr. Bac Cam Khuyen, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Son La province, said: In the period of 2020-2025, the Provincial Farmers' Working Committee has selected 50 good farmers as "trainers" (coaches), instructing members in difficult circumstances on cultivation techniques and applying digital technology to sell online on Postmart.vn, Voso.vn...
As one of 50 good farmers selected as coaches, instructing on techniques for planting and caring for fruit trees at each stage of development, Mr. Hoang Van Chat, Cu village, Chieng Mai commune, always enthusiastically supports poor farmer members. Mr. Chat said: I have shared my experience in growing fruit trees with farming households, from techniques for digging holes, fertilizing, using pesticides, to care and harvesting processes. In addition, I also support loans for households in need. In Cu village alone, I have helped more than 10 households escape poverty and have a good income.
In 2020, Mr. Hoang Van Hoang, Cu village, Chieng Mai commune, was given the opportunity by Mr. Hoang Van Chat to participate in planting and caring for fruit trees, in the form of both working and instructing production techniques and being paid from 150-200 thousand VND/day. After more than 2 years working at Mr. Chat's family, Mr. Hoang has basically grasped each step of the fruit tree production process and has boldly converted his family's 6,000 m² corn field to grow fruit trees.
Mr. Hoang shared: Along with technical support for production, my family also received a loan of 50 million VND and 100 longan and mango seedlings from Mr. Chat. Up to now, the garden has yielded the third harvest, with an income of about 50 million VND per crop and the debt has been paid off in early 2025. Thanks to Mr. Chat's help, my family has escaped poverty. I hope that more poor farming households will be supported like my family, so that they can escape poverty soon.
Also one of the typical trainers of the model "Farmers teach farmers", Mr. Trang A Cao, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Hua Tat village, Van Ho commune, has mobilized 6 other households to establish A Cao Agricultural Cooperative, planting more than 20 hectares of fruit trees, helping each member earn an income of over 200 million VND/year. Mr. Cao said: I have focused on supporting each other in economic development, establishing linked groups to share knowledge and support capital, in which the Cooperative plays a core role in connecting and consuming products. Thanks to that, the village now has only 10 poor households.
In the period of 2020-2025, implementing the model of "Farmers teaching farmers", farmers in the province have linked up to establish more than 1,000 cooperatives and linked groups to share capital, techniques and markets. Along with the government's support policies on low-interest loans and technical training, it helps poor farming households reduce their poverty by an average of 3% per year.
The spirit of mutual assistance among Son La farmers is the condition and premise for the development of the model "Farmers teaching farmers", helping members learn directly from successful people, creating motivation for households to escape poverty, contributing to the construction of new rural areas and affirming the spirit of solidarity among farmers in the whole province.
