Images of collapsed bridges and ruined houses due to earthquake in Myanmar's second largest city

After a 7.7-magnitude earthquake this afternoon (March 28), many buildings and a bridge in Myanmar's second largest city of Mandalay collapsed, with debris scattered on the streets.

According to the BBC, Mandalay was not far from the epicenter of the first earthquake. According to the US Geological Survey (USSG), just 12 minutes later, a second earthquake, measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale, occurred with its epicenter 18km from Sagaing.

Myanmar's military government has declared a state of emergency in six regions including Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Easter Shan and Naypyitaw.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck 16km northwest of Sagaing town in central Myanmar at around 12:50 on March 28, also causing strong tremors in many other countries such as India, China, Thailand and Vietnam. With the recorded intensity, this earthquake has become one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in recent times.
