Masatada Ishii at the technical analysis meeting on October 21. |
This action took place just 2 days after he was abruptly fired by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) on October 21. According to Thairath , the Japanese strategist deleted all posts, featured stories and media content related to his time leading the Thai national team.
This includes photos from matches, training sessions, squad announcements and celebrations over nearly two years in the job (since December 2023). Currently, his Instagram account is either empty or has only personal content unrelated to Thailand. This comes after Ishii publicly criticized the FAT as "dishonest" in a post just hours after being fired.
According to Ishii, he was summoned to the FAT headquarters at 10am on October 21 to "evaluate the two matches with Taiwan". The meeting went smoothly, but right after it ended, he was suddenly informed: "The contract will be terminated today".
"I didn't have time to sort out the jumbled thoughts in my head, so I agreed to 'talk again' and didn't sign. Then, the notice of termination was given in the afternoon. What insincere people," Ishii wrote, clearly expressing his anger.
Ishii’s dismissal has sparked a major controversy in Thai football circles. The FAT said that Ishii’s coaching style no longer fits with their long-term vision. Specific issues include neglecting in-form domestic players, failures at the 2024 ASEAN Cup and 2025 King’s Cup, and the recent 3-1 loss to Turkmenistan, which affected their chances of qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup.
