KEY PLAYERS
In 2025, the U.23 Vietnam team has two important tasks: passing the 2026 U.23 Asian qualifiers (September) and winning the gold medal in men's football at the 33rd SEA Games (December) in Thailand. Therefore, the 2025 U.23 Southeast Asian Championship is important, providing a basis for coach Kim Sang-sik to test the squad and personnel, thereby choosing the most satisfactory options. That is also the reason why the Korean strategist officially holds the steering table in this tournament.

With the importance of the tournament, plus the time of the tournament taking place right when the V-League is on break, the U.23 Vietnam team can call up the best players. This is a good sign, because the current U.23 generation includes many players with rich experience in competition, even wearing the Vietnam national team jersey. After impressive performances at HAGL, goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien has been continuously called up to the Vietnam national team for over a year, learning from seniors such as Nguyen Filip, Nguyen Dinh Trieu and especially goalkeeper coach Lee.
Won-jae, the legendary goalkeeper of Korean football. His teammate at HAGL, Pham Ly Duc, has also been called up to the national team. In the midfield, Nguyen Thai Son (Thanh Hoa Club) has more experience than his teammates in the same position. Recently, in an interview with the Southeast Asian Football Federation, Coach Kim affirmed that Ly Duc and Thai Son are the factors that helped the U.23 Vietnam team achieve success in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Khuat Van Khang (The Cong Viettel Club) promises to become a dangerous drill on the left flank of the U.23 Vietnam team.
On the attack line, trust is placed in Nguyen Dinh Bac ( Hanoi Police Club), Nguyen Thanh Nhan (PVF-CAND), 2 players who were highly trusted by coach Philippe Troussier. In addition, Nguyen Quoc Viet (Ninh Binh Club), who was recently called up to the Vietnam national team by coach Kim, is also a name worth waiting for. Nicknamed "King of Youth Tournaments", he has always played impressively in youth tournaments at home, regional and continental levels.
Full of V-League experience
The U.23 Vietnam team is relatively complete with national players. In the remaining positions, coach Kim Sang-sik also has a series of players who have been regularly honed in the V-League. In SLNA, the outstanding factors are defender Ho Van Cuong, midfielders Dinh Xuan Tien, Nguyen Quang Vinh, Le Dinh Long Vu. Of which, Van Cuong and Xuan Tien won the U.23 Southeast Asian Championship twice, and Xuan Tien himself was the top scorer of the tournament taking place in 2023.
Hanoi FC will also contribute many quality players to the U.23 Vietnam team. They are central defender Nguyen Duc Anh (currently on loan to Da Nang FC), Le Van Ha and midfielder Nguyen Van Truong. Some important factors of other V-League teams worth looking forward to are central defender Nguyen Nhat Minh (Hai Phong FC), midfielder Nguyen Phi Hoang (Da Nang FC), Viktor Le (Ha Tinh FC), Le Van Thuan (Thanh Hoa FC)... In this group, the most notable are Nhat Minh and Viktor Le. Nhat Minh has been a mainstay of Hai Phong FC in the last 2 seasons, with an intelligent playing style, good at aerial combat and playing confidently. Viktor Le is playing better and better, showing great integration with the U.23 Vietnam team at CFA China Team 2025, a tournament where our young players played impressively. All of this will create a healthy competitive environment within the U.23 Vietnam team, an important factor to motivate players to progress and achieve their goals.
